Winter Park Band Notes
January 15, 2017
From Mr. Blackmer
Dear Band Families,
Congratulations to all of our All-State students on three terrific performances this past weekend in Tampa! The Winter Park Bands had eight students participating this year, including Nicholas Bulynin and Maia Ruiz in the 9/10 Concert Band; Adam DeLoach, Samuel Dufresne, Wade McCrea, and Arvind Shankar in the 11/12 Symphonic Band; and Tommy Claus and Zach Noble in the 11/12 Symphony Orchestra.
Also, a huge thanks to our All-State chaperones - Douglas Dufresne, Maureen Dufresne, and Laura Ruiz!
Next up is All-County Band the week of January 23!
All the Best!
Mr. Blackmer
Tijuana Flats Spirit Night - January 18
Please help support the Winter Park Band by attending the spirit night being held at the Tijuana Flats on Aloma Ave. in Winter Park this Wednesday, January 18 between 6 PM and 9 PM. Tijuana Flats will be donating 20% of sales for anyone who says they are there to support the WPHS Bands!
Band Lock-In
As mentioned above, the Band Council will be hosting our 2nd annual Band Lock-In on Friday, January 20, 2017, from 6 PM - 2 AM. There will be video games on the big screens, movies in the Auditorium, board games, a talent show, Chick-fil-A, and much more! There is not cost for students, but everyone is asked to bring a snack (cookies, cupcakes, etc.) to share.
Students are asked to RSVP through the Band Calendar.
We also need a lot of parent chaperone help! If you can donate some of your time that evening, please go sign-up on the Band Calendar. There are two shift options: the first one is 5:45 PM - 10 PM, and the other is 9:45 PM - 2 AM. Parents are also welcome (and encouraged) to sign-up for both shifts - just enter your name and information in both sections. We need chaperones in order for this event to become a reality!
Volunteers Needed
We need a few volunteers on Thursday, January 26, 7 PM - 9 PM, to help set up for the OCPS Director’s Breakfast held annually in our cafeteria. We also need some volunteers at the same time to help stuff folders and prepare donation cans for our Door-2-Door fundraiser. If you will be dropping off your child for an All-County rehearsal on this night, please consider volunteering. We also need help serving at the OCPS Director’s Breakfast on Friday, January 27, 8 AM -10:30 AM. If you can assist for any of these needs, please email Maureen Dufresne at mdufresne5@embarqmail.com.
Door-2-Door Fundraiser - February 4
Our Door-2-Door Fundraiser held on Saturday, February 4, 8 AM – 5 PM is mandatory for all Band students. Students may sign up with one partner for this fundraiser. A list has been posted outside of the Band Office and students have until the end of this week to sign-up with a partner. After that, your partner will be selected for you.
Organizing the teams of students and drivers for this event is a monumental task. We appreciate your cooperation! Please email Maureen Dufresne at mdufresne5@embarqmail.com if you have any questions.
