Dear CLA Families,
We are only a few days away from the start of the 2022-23 school year and we are so excited to welcome back all of our staff tomorrow for Institute Day. We hope everyone had an enjoyable summer with friends and family. As we get ready to kick off our new school year, I wanted to send one more reminder about the start of the school year and make sure everyone has this important information before school starts.
As you read through our newsletters, you will see that some of the information may or may not apply to your child’s classroom or program. To help families better understand which program your child is in, please don’t hesitate to ask! I wanted to make sure everyone knows about the different programs at Conyers Learning Academy (CLA) and what different abbreviations mean in the newsletter. CLA is home to the following programs:
Special Education Early Childhood Program (called EC for short)
This program is for students ages 3-5 who qualify for special education services and are recommended to receive their services in a special education classroom setting.
Within the EC Program, we have 5 Early Childhood SIP (Structured for Independence Program) classrooms.
Teachers in the EC Program - Mrs. Das, Mrs. Dunham, Ms. Erb, Mrs. H(Heilbronner), Ms. Jorie, Ms. Melissa, and Ms. Monika.
Teachers in the EC SIP Program - Mrs. Barr, Ms. Heather, Ms. Katie, Ms. Lauren (Schniers), and Ms. Mindee.
ECDEC Preschool For All Program (called ECDEC for short)
ECDEC stands for the Early Childhood Developmental Enrichment Center.
This program is for students ages 3-5 who qualify for the general education at-risk preschool program. All students are required to be screened and qualify for the program. The ECDEC program is funded by the Illinois Preschool For All Grant (PFA).
We also have Blended ECDEC classrooms at CLA. These are general education classrooms for students who qualify both for ECDEC and some students may also qualify for an IEP (Individualized Education Plan).
Teachers in the ECDEC Program - Ms. Annie, Ms. Beth, Ms. Carol, Ms. Hollie, Ms. Jeannie, Ms. Kathy, Ms. Kiki, Ms. Lauren (Manka), Ms. Magaly, and Ms. Suzy.
ACES Public Therapeutic Day School Program (called ACES for short)
This is a program for students in Kindergarten through 8th grade who require a structured learning environment to support their social and emotional needs.
Teachers in the ACES Program - Mrs. Rustman, Mr. Kooiker, Ms. Park, and Mr. Renfro.
Multiple Needs Public Therapeutic Day School Program (called MN for short)
This is a program for students in Kindergarten through 8th grade who require a structured learning environment to support their communication, social and emotional, regulation, and functional needs.
Teachers in the MN Program - Ms. Morris, Mrs. Busse, and Mrs. Orth
We are extremely proud of each of the programs at CLA. Our staff truly lives by the CLA Moto - “Where Every Student Can Learn.” We can’t wait to have your students start this school year!
If you did not have a chance to read our Welcome Back Letter that was sent out on Aug. 4th, please make sure you read this as well.

Transportation Updates
All students who will be taking the bus have their pick up/drop off times listed on the Parent Portal. Please make sure you can log it and check these times. If you notice any errors, please contact our office. At this time, transportation is not able to make any changes until after the start of the school year. All changes take 3-5 days to process. We appreciate your patience and understanding.
During this first two weeks of school, we appreciate your patience as the buses will do their best to stick to their bus route times. Please allow for 10 min. before calling the office to report a late bus for both pick up and drop off times.
If your child requires a bus safety harness, please make sure to pick up your child’s harness at Meet the Teacher. If you are not able to attend, we will try to have a harness on your child’s bus for the first day.
If your child was assigned a bus and you plan to drive them, please call or email Lynn Erdmann (erdmannl@ccsd15.net or 847-963-3403) so we can remove their name from the bus route.
Parent Drop Off and Pick Up Procedures
If you plan to drop off or pick up your child from school this year, please make sure you review our Drop Off and Pick Up Procedures Letters.
