Emma & Nicole
What does family structure mean?
The traditional family structure is considered a family support system involving two individuals providing care and stability for their children. There are many different types of structure. These include things like; a "broken" home. This is the term for a home of children with divorced parents. And another example would be; "Single" parent families. This is where the father or the mother is singly responsible for their children.
TYPES OF FAMILY
Different types of family structure and how these structures make us unique?
Same Sex parent families
A family where one or both of the parents’ sexual orientation is gay or lesbian. This may be a two-parent family, an adoptive family, a single parent family or an extended family.
This can implement a child's uniqueness as it can teach them the moral values of life and equality. Having gay parents can teach a child how to be more open minded, understanding and optimistic.
Nuclear families
A family consisting of a married man & woman and their biological children.
This can implement a child's uniqueness as having a steady lifestyle can help the child deal with difficult situations and situations involving communication. It could also give them more confidence as they know that they have a strong family support unit.
Extended Families
A family where Grandparents or Aunts and Uncles play major roles in the children’s upbringing. This may or may not include those relatives living with the children. These family members may be in addition to the child’s parents or instead of the child’s parents.
