Children Blossom with Yoga Skills
for both Mind and Body
Saturday, October 6, 12:30pm - 4:30pm
A practical seminar for anyone who wants to encourage and facilitate healthy physical, cognitive, and emotional development in children: educators, parents, therapists, and yoga teachers are welcome. Being an accomplished yoga practitioner is not a prerequisite, but a caring heart really helps.
Innovative methods that help children learn to FOCUS, RELEASE ANXIETY, & RELATE WELL TO OTHERS will be presented in fun and accessible ways. Karres Cvetkovich will be your instructor. Her experience includes working closely with the founder of RYE (Research on Yoga in Education, an international group developing these methods since the 1970's) to design and administer a year long program funded through a Department of Education grant. Both teachers and students benefited on many levels.
Most practices take only a few minutes and are useful even in a classroom setting to refresh children who are dull, sluggish or anxious, or to calm an atmosphere when the children are bouncing off the walls. Adults often demand that children listen and pay attention with little success---why not learn simple techniques for skillfully bringing awareness to the sense of hearing, and others that encourage the development of attention, which is not an inborn skill (and which is a challenge for most adults in this age of busyness and overwhelming distraction). Current neuroscience research shows that it is not until the emotional brain is neutrallized---and for this you will receive child appropriate guided relaxation instruction---that the forebrain can be accessed for new learning and memory.
