Lets Goooooooooooooooooooooooooooo!
As we get ready for the first day, the excitement is in the air. Thursday's Meet the Teacher event was awesome. A huge shout out to our PTO, extended day vendors and Lovett staff for making this event a success. As you get ready for the first day, a few things are important for a smooth start:
1. If you didn't attend Meet the Teacher or forgot to pick up your temporary car tag, please make a sign for day one. On the sign, please put your child's name, grade and teacher.
2. PACK YOUR PATIENCE AT DROP OFF AND DISMISSAL. Everyone will be getting back in the groove with drop off and pick, expect that this week things will take a little longer. To help with drop off make sure kids have everything ready to exit the car when you pull up. Remember parents are not able to walk in so you are either dropping off or walking your child up to the door.
3. When dropping off our picking up, please follow the traffic map and stay in your vehicle.
4. We are all experiencing the super-hot temperatures. Please make sure to send a fillable water bottle with your child. Depending on the temperature, we may be having recess indoors, but if we get any time outside water bottles will be important.
5. Breakfast is available at 7:20 when our doors open. Breakfast from school can be eaten in the classroom, but home breakfast should be eaten at home.
6. Make sure all shot records are turned in by the first day of school
7. Don't forget to complete the Independent Walker permission slip if your child walks home or walks to meet you at a designated location off campus. We must have this on the first day.
8. Make sure to connect with your teacher's Class Dojo as this is how all class news will be sent.

Bicycles
Students who ride bicycles to school should observe all safety rules as they relate to operating bicycles on the street. Once on the sidewalks adjacent to the campus, students must walk their bicycles to the bicycle racks and secure them with a chain and/or a lock. The school takes no responsibility for lost/damaged or stolen bicycles
SCHOOL ATTENDANCE 90% RULE
Houston ISD is dedicated to academic achievement and success for all scholars. Regular attendance is critically important, because students who are absent lose instructional seat time, thus creating a lost opportunity to learn, ask questions and engage in class activities. Poor attendance can be excused/unexcused absences and truancies, which ultimately impacts our students’ academic performance.
In accordance with Texas Education Code Section 25.092 (Attendance for Credit 90% Rule); A student at any grade level from kindergarten through grade 12 shall not be given credit or final grade for a class unless the student is in attendance 90 percent of the days in which the class is offered.
This is where we need your help and joint collaboration by ensuring the following is done if your child will be absent, late or leaving early from school:
Keep Connected – Upon return please send either a letter, email or phone call to the school explaining the reason for that day(s) absence, if your child was in need medical attention, please provide a licensed doctor or physician note.
Keep Students Healthy – Make sure students get sleep, eat well and exercise. If you are not certain whether to send your child to school due to illness, call your Campus Nurse or Attendance Clerk to discuss the situation. If your child must miss school more than three days of, please contact your campus as soon as possible; medical verification may be required.
New: Independent Walker Permission Slip
Drop Off
On the first day of school parents will not be able to walk into the building. We made this decision with the safety of all in mind as we are unable to control who is coming into the building during that morning drop off time. I realize that this might not be a popular decision, but safety was at the top of the list.
When using the circle drives for drop off, please exit students on the curbside. Please also stay in your vehicle and always pull up to the furthest point at directed by staff on duty.
BIRDWOOD LOOP: Grades Pre-k, kinder, first grade and siblings: Pre-k and Kinder teachers will be waiting for them in the cafeteria. First grade students will report directly to class. If there are older siblings they may also enter through Birdwood. Parents may walk their children up to door if they choose to walk up. When you drop off remind your child that this is also where you will pick them up.
JASON LOOP: Grades 2nd-5th may use the Jason loop drop off and will report directly to their classes. Staff will be stationed throughout the building to assist students.Parents may walk their children up to the front door if they choose to walk up.
IMPORTANT: Visitor’s Parking is limited, if you choose to walk up to drop off, please use street parking where available or park and walk across/around the park. PLEASE do not use the visitor’s lot for drive up drop off.
Pick Up
Make sure your teacher knows how your child will get home
Bring your pick up sign provided during Meet the Teacher. Having your sign ready will help things move along faster. If you do not attend Meet the Teacher, signs will be sent home on first day(make a sign with your child’s name, grade and teacher to use on first day pick up

2nd-5th grade: Use Jason Pick up Loop
Please stay in your vehicle and move up to the furthest point as directed by staff on duty.
Children will enter the car from the curbside. Please do not direct them to walk between cars to walk around to the driver side.
Walkers exit to the park(NEW: must have walker permission slip on file; see link above)
If you park in the visitors lot(in a space), please walk up to pick up your child. They will not be sent out to the parking lot.

Student Dress Guidelines 23-24
Below is a link to our student dress guidelines. This past school year, our students did fairly well, but there were a few patterns of dress issues that we saw often. Please review below for some tips and things to avoid.
- Kids of all ages grow fast and what fits them at the end of the school year, may not fit them in August. We saw a lot of issue with clothes that kids had outgrown. Keep an eye on this especially as it leads to somethings that is too short or too tight for school. Remember if purchasing clothing is ever an issue, Mrs. Prince our Wraparound Specialist can help. Just reach out to her or any of us and we will connect you.
- Athleisure wear is in but not all work for school. Exercise leggings should be worn with a shirt that is long enough to cover the bottom. Also pay attention to running shorts with the slits in the side. Many have slits that open wide and are super short. We did notice that the running shorts with the attached leggings worked well but check this for your own child.
- Consider bike shorts under dresses and skirts as this helps our young ladies play more confidently at recess and P.E.
- Crocs are not a part of our dress guidelines. We strongly recommend sneakers, especially on P.E. days.
- Pants must securely fit at the waist with or without a belt. Underwear should not be visible.
- We saw a few muscle tanks from some of our young men this year- These are the ones with deep arm holes down the side-please avoid this at school.
VIPS for 23-24 School Year
Parent Portal Opens August 28, 2023
When the portal opens you will also be able to see your tentative teacher assignment. These assignments are not permanent as we balance classes through the summer until Meet the Teacher. When classroom assignments become visible, we usually get many emails to request a particular teacher or placement with particular friends. We do our very best to place our students, so please understand that we are not able to accommodate request as this creates a situation where we can not appropriately balance classes.
