Early Childhood
Ray Bradbury was born on august 22nd, 1920 in Waukegan,Illinois to Leonard Spaulding Bradbury and Esther Marie Bradbury. His father Leonard Spaulding was a lineman for power and telephone utilities. His mother Esther Marie Bradbury was a swedish immigrant. When Ray was young he loved magic and loved to read fiction and adventure books. When he was 12 or 13 he decided what he was going to do. He was going to become a writer.
Middle age years
In 1934 his family moved from Illinois to Los Angeles, California. He was a teen now and he participated in drama club at school. He also had friends that were celebrities. He sold his first story at the age of 19. In 1938 he graduated high school. He did not have the money to go to college so he went and worked at the local library. While he wrote his story's Ray sold newspapers. He sold his first story in 1941 called "Pendulum". The "Pendulum" was the first professional piece he sold. He published it a month before the the americans got into world war 2 against Japan. He wanted to join to the military but due to his vision was denied by the local draft board. In 1947 he got married to Marguerite "Maggie" McClure. Ray and Maggie had 4 daughters; Susan who was born in 1949, Ramona who was born in 1951, Bettina who was born in 1955 and Alexandra who was born in 1958.
Older years/Honors
Ray Bradbury kept writing even when he was in his 90's. He died on June 5th, 2012 in Los Angeles he was 91. He left a wife 4 daughters and a several of grandchildren. He never learned to drive. He never went to college and he never rode in an airplane. He is best known for his novel Fahrenheit 451 which was published in 1953. He got the "World Fantasy Award" and the "Grand Master Award" from writers who write science fiction.
