December Updates

Carl Cozier News ~ December 2, 2018

Note from the Principal

Hello Carl Cozier Families,

Happy December! I hope this newsletter finds you enjoying our colder days and looking towards 2019 with wonder and excitement.

We've been busy at Carl Cozier! Students are practicing math, expanding their writing, deepening their thinking through inquiry and reading some really great books! All of this learning paired with recesses, buddy classrooms, gardening, music, P.E. and Spanish make our days very exciting! If you have not had an opportunity to visit your child's classroom and would like to volunteer, please do not hesitate to reach out to myself or your child's classroom teacher. We love to see parent faces in our building!

Wishing you and your family a joyful season. I am so grateful to be a part of the Cozier Community and always love hearing from families. Please feel free to email or stop by the office to chat anytime.

Warm Regards,

Ari Feeney

Big News! Mrs. Flinn Retires!

After over 30 years with the Bellingham Public Schools, Mrs. Flinn has decided to retire! Her last day in the office will be January 2, 2019. Anne has worked in several of our elementary schools, including Larabee, Lowell, Silver Beach and, of course, Carl Cozier. Her knowledge, insights, relationship with students, staff and parents and her ability to keep things in perspective will be greatly missed in our office. Anne says she's looking forward to a lot of things in retirement, but the most exciting is a trip to Venice in February! Wow! That sounds like a great way to step into retirement!

We will honor Mrs. Flinn at a school-wide assembly on Friday, December 14th at 8:20am. Please feel free to join us if you're able.

We will begin the process of positing and interviewing for the Principal's Secretary position in the coming weeks.

Please join me in thanking - and congratulating - Mrs. Flinn!

Big picture

Breakfast & Books!

We have exciting news! With generous sponsorship from Woods Coffee, Haggen and Costco we are able to begin hosting families every Wednesday morning from 7:30-8:00 am in the Library for BREAKFAST & BOOKS.

Breakfast & Books is held every Wednesday, from 7:30-8:00am. We'd love to see you there!

This is an opportunity for families to spend time together enjoying the resources our library has to offer. Families are invited to join us for coffee and pastries, to read books with their children, help kiddos check out new books, and hear recommendations for great reads. Our goal is to create a welcome, open space for families to explore books together! We hope to see you there!

Cooking with Common Threads

Classes will enjoy monthly cooking lessons through March 12th. Starting in December and into mid-January, students will prepare and taste fresh applesauce with apples harvested from local farms. We will explore a variety of spices including cinnamon, ginger, cardamom and nutmeg. Students will bringthe recipe home: Look for it! If you’re interested in getting involved, please contact: maddie@commonthreadsfarm.org. For more information please visit www.commonthreadsfarm.org

Also, Carl Cozier gardening and cooking bulletin board will be going up in the hallway, so keep your eyes peeled for it!
