Reading/Literacy
5th Grade- This week we began some preparations for a debate about whether or not we should have school uniforms. Your children have some strong opinions about this! We learned about the word democracy and what it means for us and others who don't live in a democracy. They find it hard to believe that some people can't just say whatever they feel in some other places in the world.
Next week we will continue with our debates and argue on the side we have been given. It is important to see both sides of a situation.
Math
This week in math we are finishing with division. We have explored several methods to solve division problems. We practiced using the big 7 method and standard algorithm for division. We took a quiz on division today, 11/3. Expect to see those results next week.
Next week we will go back to decimals. We will add, subtract, multiply and divide decimals.
Please remember to continue to practice multiplication facts. At this point, no fingers should be needed. Using flash cards is great practice. The faster they recognize those facts the better!
Science
This week in Science we spent time examining the difference between states of matter and properties of matter. Ask your child to tell you the difference. We also discussed requirements for the Mini Matter Project which is due on Wed., November 16. Students received a copy of the directions and they have also been posted on Science Google Classroom as well.
Our test over the States of Matter will be Thursday, November 10th. A study guide will be coming home soon to help prepare. Next week, we will begin discovering the difference between physical and chemical changes.
Safety Patrol!
Thank you to our fabulous Safety Patrol and Mrs. Ingolia! We are definitely back to basics with walking quietly in the hallway and using awesome manners!!
Great Job Safety Patrol Team!!
