The Great Kindness Challenge 2018

Monday, Jan. 22nd, 8am to Friday, Jan. 26th, 4pm

6041 Landis Road

Oxford, NC

The Great Kindness Challenge is one week dedicated to creating a culture of kindness on campuses nationwide. OPS is proudly participating in this proactive, positive initiative. All students will receive a GKC checklist with 50 kind acts. Please encourage your student to have fun and complete the checklist. Students who complete all 50 kind acts will be entered in to a drawing for 2 free tickets to Winter Formal and a $50 gift certificate to Uptown 101.

Part of the GKC is Kind Coins for Hurricane Relief. Students are encouraged to collect spare change and donations from the community to donate to the effort. All proceeds raised go to the 501c3 non-profit Kids for Peace who will use the money to build playgrounds at hurricane effected schools. More information on this effort can be found here.

Other events during the GKC are:

Spirit Days:

  • Monday: Wear crazy socks to "kick off" the Great Kindness Challenge

Small Group Counseling Available

The purpose of small groups is to bring students with similar needs or concerns together to share, problem solve, and connect with their peers to enhance their social and emotional development. This is NOT a form of therapy, but rather an outlet where students can express themselves in a safe space.

Students may participate in the following groups:

Anxiety & Coping Skills

Motivation & Effort

Conflict Resolution

Academic Improvement

Girls Group (self-esteem, female empowerment, positive relationships)

Boys Group (positive relationships, behavior management)

More information will be provided for parents at the Meet the Counselor Orientation on January 26, 2018.
