Panthers,
Another week is in the books at CHHS, and it is hard to believe that we have been in school EIGHT WEEKS; it feels like only yesterday that we were opening the doors for the first day of school. I guess the cliché is true that time truly does fly when you are having fun, and right now, it is a fun time to be a CHHS Panther. Congrats to our tennis team as they brought home the district championship on Tuesday night. As well as the girls cross country team that finished as the runner-up in the district meet held yesterday. Both of these groups will head to the next round of competition as they attempt to make a run at a state championship. Last night was opening night at CHHS for "A Midsummer Night's Dream" from our Theater Department. As always, this is a fantastic performance by our students and you can still catch shows tonight and tomorrow. Our band takes to the competition field this weekend at Birdville, with their march toward the state championships starting on Tuesday night as they compete at Pennington Field. Let's not forget the volleyball team that is currently undefeated and very close to another district championship -- they host Birdville tonight. Finally, our football team is currently undefeated in district and will host Birdville tonight at 7:30pm. As you can tell, our students are putting their talents on full display all around campus, and it is a great time to bring PRIDE and come out to support the hard work from all of our students.
Finally, a couple of weeks ago, we instituted "High Five Thursdays." A very simple thing of giving someone a high five throughout the day in an attempt to make their day a little bit brighter. Yesterday, I was filled with PRIDE as I watched our students' faces light up as I gave them high fives; many of them even sought me out to get their high five for the day. My hope is that your student is filled with PRIDE when they walk in this building every day, because I can assure you that I am!! Have a great weekend and GO PANTHERS!!

Student Voice
Define what PRIDE means to you at CHHS.
To me, PRIDE at CHHS is summarized by diversity. At our school, we have not only diversity in the student body but diversity in opportunity. There is a wide variety of courses to take, but it extends outside of the academic world. Our school offers so many clubs and extracurriculars that lets students be involved in things that interest them, whether it is service through Interact Club or National Honor Society, fine arts through art, theater, band, and choir, or any other field. While I consider myself fairly active in groups throughout CHHS, there is always so much happening that I am not involved in or know nothing about. It is always exciting and a source of pride to be able to see the wide range of things our student body creates and takes part in.

CHHS Graduation Requirements
A note from the CHHS nurse
Medications at school! With over 2,000 students in our school, it is a huge task to keep up with all of the students who have medications here. We require permission forms for any medications at school. Emergency Inhalers and Epinephrine auto injectors are the only prescription medications that can be carried at school and a Dr.’s signature on the paperwork is required for students to carry it on their person. This paperwork is also needed for athletes who may leave the medications with the trainers. All prescriptions must have the pharmacy label attached with the student’s name and directions for use.
Other prescription medications are required to be kept in the clinic in a locked cabinet and will be administered in the clinic. Morning doses are to be given at home and later doses will be given at school. Again, a permission form and pharmacy label are required. We are happy to keep a backup dose of medication here for daily morning meds in case they are missed. Dr. signature is required on any controlled medications. We will not administer any non FDA approved medications or supplements.
The great thing we offer at high school that is different than our prior grade levels is the parent driven opportunity for students to carry over the counter (FDA approved) medications with them. We have a short permission slip that is filled out annually where parents can give their student permission to carry their OTC meds. The student also signs this form which spells out the rules to 1. Always keep in original container, 2. Do not share with others, 3. Take only as directed. If you feel your student is mature enough to abide by this, it may save you a trip to school once in a while. We do not provide any
medications to students that they did not bring. These rules help keep our campus a safer place. Medication abuse is very real. Please help us by providing us the right paperwork and information on your student. Also note that the students cars are
on school property when parked in student parking and they are subject to the same rules as what the student has in the school.
Here is the link to the district permission forms needed for medications.
I sincerely appreciate your help in getting this documentation! Faxed and email documents are accepted with Dr. signature (and parent signature) as long as Dr. contact information is provided.
