Lansing Elementary School
Board of Education Report
June 2020
I hope summer is a time for our hard-working staff to rest and reset in preparation to be ready to meet our student at the beginning of the 2020-2021 school-year. I know many of our staff are engaged in continuing education and professional development opportunities during their break. We have some teachers taking advantage of the generous tuition reimbursement benefit offering to Lansing teachers. Here are some things we have been working on to date:
- Creating a master schedule that support the recommended TASN team guidelines including time for a daily reading and math intervention while maintaining Tier 1 core curriculum recommended times.
- Cleaning and organizing our storage spaces to remove all old curriculum materials so that we can keep our current materials organized to be readily accessible to staff.
- Creating intervention rooms in empty rooms to have usable spaces to work with students in Tier 2 and Tier 3 groups.
- Creating a common area for interventionists to share resources and collaborate.
- Securing technology training from Greenbush to support staff preparedness to use Google Classroom and Google Suite in anticipation of this need during the COVID era of education.
- Consideration of alternate plans for supporting students and our families while awaiting guidance from KSDE in mid-July.
- Updating long-range planning for 2nd Step pacing guide to be used during LES daily dedicated SEL (social-emotional learning) time.
- Updating long-range counselor planning to align with ASCA (American School Counselor Association) recommendations, PRIDE core values to create a common language to support all Tier 1 SEL instruction.
- Updating front office to reflect our core character and school-spirit values and provide a welcoming and inclusive environment.
- Updating Staff Handbooks and Crisis Plan.
- Organizing overflow school furniture into one room to make space for intervention rooms.
- Updating site-council procedures.
- On-boarding new staff.
Our BLT plans to meet on July 16, 2020 from 8-4 pm for our summer retreat.
This is just a sampling of summer work that will be on-going and evolving as we continue to get guidance from KSDE, the Leavenworth County Health Department, and our district administrative team. All of our staff hope that we can welcome our students back to school in-person this school-year. We will be prepared for whatever circumstances unfold.
