Keeping Up With The Kennedy

January 19, 2020- Issue 18

Mrs. Dixon's Class

Students have been learning addition and exploring all the ways they can represent addition, where they use addition in daily life, and the many tools they can use to help them add. They set up a “Room 1 Grocery Store” and made price tags for all of their items. They used mini erasers, plates, and dice to create addition equations. They also used rulers as number lines to make patterns on paper with black crayon and then watercolor painted their creations!

Mr. Sasin's PE Class

Grade 5 explored a variety of balancing shapes this week. The focus was on how your base of support affects your ability to be still or static. The students were very creative in creating balancing shapes both as individuals and in groups.

Mrs. Proctor's Class

Students read The Hat by Jan Brett and then did a subtraction lesson based on the story. Students counted the amount of clothing on the line and removed pieces of clothes to create and solve a variety of subtraction problems.

Miss Gushue's Class

Students finished up their weather unit which included observing weather, clouds, and wind directions. They just used the engineering design process to plan, create, test, and redesign their barrier walls to keep from flooding.

Miss Pallotto's Class

In Science, students worked on mapping existing volcanoes in the world to identify if a new volcano could pop up in their own backyard!! After some mapping and discussions, the students discovered Canton, MA is not subject to a volcano erupting but many places along the Pacific Ocean's coast are susceptible to this happening. They also learned that volcanoes form in groups and create a pattern called the "Ring of Fire", which mans they can easily be tracked.
