Summer Make Over
We were busy this summer adding some new touches to our Learning Commons to make the space more inviting. We added colorful valences on the windows, re-arranged a few shelves and the desktop computers, added a MakerSpace, purchased some more soft seating, added wheels to the tables so we can re-arrange the furniture quickly when needed and added some word art to inspire our learning. See what you think in some of the pictures below! Do plan to come in and take a look around! We are very proud of the work we have done and plan to complete a couple more updates soon.
Word Art
Second graders suggested adding words around the Learning Commons. We think it was a great idea!
We are MOBILE!
Adding wheels to the tables enables us to re-purpose the Learning Commons quickly for different activities!
Window treatments
Small colorful valences were added.
Magnetic White Boards
White Boards in the MakerSpace for children to collaborate and practice their letters. Other items in the MakerSpace will be puzzles, Legos and other building tools along with many other fun things to create with!
New Shelf Markers
Shelf Markers were added to the Biography, Non-fiction and Everybody shelves to make finding books a little easier.
Short tables with White Board paint
A couple of shorter tables will be used along with soft seating to give students a choice of where to sit and work. The whiteboard on the table top gives them the ability to share their thinking with each other easily.
Volunteers Needed!
We hope that you will consider volunteering in the Learning Commons this year. We will need lots of volunteers during the Book Fair which will begin on September 25. We would also love for you to consider sharing your talents with the children. In our MakerSpace we will learn new skills to create. If you have a talent you would like to share such as woodworking, knitting, crocheting, sewing, or any other creative talent, please consider volunteering your time to share it with our students. Hands on learning makes it so much more engaging for young children. Just send Mrs. Stepp an email letting her know what you would like to share and when you would be available and we will make it happen! Her email is shstepp@lexington1.net
We are looking forward to a wonderful year of learning in the Learning Commons!
Learning Commons Staff at Open House
(L to R) Ms. Ellis, Literacy Coach, Ms. Holliman, Technology Integration Specialist, and Ms. Stepp, Teacher Librarian were on hand dressed as Pete the Cat in 3 of his books! We enjoyed meeting many of the students and their families! Just the beginning of lots of fun! Today we will do great things together! Let's get to it!
