2020-21 REOPENING SCHOOLS UPDATES
Adjustment to Friday’s Schedule during CDL/Hybrid Model
The district is shortening the expectations regarding synchronous learning on Fridays. Students will only receive live instruction in the mornings, giving teaching staff time to connect with all students regardless of where they are learning.
While we are in CDL, Fridays may not feel too different from other days of the week except that synchronous classes will be shortened for the day. When we shift to the Hybrid Model, the in-person learning on Fridays for the A/B cohort group who come to school that day will be shortened. Students will return home earlier, so that teachers can direct their attention during the remainder of the day to planning for, preparing for, and monitoring each of their students' progress. We do not want any child to fall behind while distance learning.
Read more about this change and the reasons for the adjustment by visiting the district website.
Health Metrics for Transitioning to Hybrid Model
In the guidance from the Oregon Health Authority (OHA) and Oregon Department of Education (ODE), for a school to return to in-person instruction with a Hybrid Model, the metrics of both county and statewide conditions must be met.
ODE provided updated guidance on August 11: For a school district that draws greater than 10% of students or staff from one or more other counties, the rate of new “cases per 100,000” and percent of “test positivity” should be considered in each of those counties.
Because the West Linn-Wilsonville School District draws 18% of staff from Washington County and 16% from Multnomah County, these two counties’ health metrics are now linked to ours in order for our school district to transition to the Hybrid Model.
We will continue to monitor the health metrics of all three counties — Clackamas, Washington and Multnomah — and keep our community informed along the way, so that we can thoughtfully prepare for the shift to the Hybrid Model when it is safe for students and staff to do so.
The full list of health metrics that districts must meet to return to in-person learning can be found on the Oregon Department of Education website. Health metrics can be found beginning on page 18 of the Ready Schools, Safe Learners guidance.
Changes to Free and Reduced Lunch Applications
School lunches will be available for pickup at school locations during Comprehensive Distance Learning, similar to what families experienced in the spring. More information will be provided in the coming days.

Chromebook Pickup
We are still finalizing plans for distribution of Chromebooks and hope to share information with families in the coming days. The district will provide Chromebooks for any student in the district who needs one.
School Board Adopts Goals and Commitments for 2020-21 School Year
Commitment 1: The Board will engage in a professionally facilitated dialogue with the purpose of exploring how we understand the term "disrupting systems of racism".
Commitment 2: The Board will examine the district's SRO program to better understand if and how the program supports the district's goals. Depending on the outcome of this examination, the Board will conclude this process with an evidence-based decision to maintain, change, or end the SRO program.
Commitment 3: Provide guidance and clarity about the bond oversight role assigned to the Long Range Planning Committee in order to further District Goal #4.
