Do you love working with big and small animals? Do you like talking to people, too? If you said yes to these questions then a veterinarian is for you. You work with animals and people. You work with people just as much as animals. Veterinarians practice medicine and surgery with companion pets, animals raised for human consumption, horses, animals in zoos, animals for military use, or in a combination of fields. Most people work in an office with companion pets. Some people have a truck and travel to ranches, farms, or zoos. Veterinarians work around 45 to 80 hours a week and are on call most of the time. If you own your own practice then you're on call 24 hours a day, seven days a week, and 365 days a year. So it cuts into personal and family time. It takes a lot of schooling but it's definitely worth it in the long run. The job pays very well and work can be gratifying!
