From Hamilton to Home

August 2021

Welcome Back, We Can't Wait To See You!

I’d like to welcome you to what will be another impactful school year at our brand new Hamilton Elementary School. My name is Jodie Johnson and I am the proud principal of this school. I am excited to begin what will be an amazing year of academic growth for your child. I have spent the last 14 years in Elyria City Schools servicing Elyria High School for 11 years and Franklin/Hamilton for 3 years. As a lifelong Elyrian, I have a heart for students and families in this community. My goal for each student is to become what I will refer to often as the “confident student”. In doing so, you can expect for your child to be challenged with high expectations that will drive them to become stronger academically, behaviorally and socially. I believe that in order for a student to begin to believe that they can be a confident student, they must speak it into existence. In doing so, students will hear the following words of affirmation each day:

I am Somebody.

I am Capable and Loveable.

I am Teachable

Therefore, I can Learn.

I will not waste Time

It is too Valuable

And I am too Precious and Bright.

I am Somebody.

So, your first assignment with your child is for you and your child to learn the above statement of affirmation. I encourage you to recite this at home with your child to help build the foundation for what will be a lifetime of learning. I am thrilled to begin another wonderful school year and look forward to meeting each and every one of you.

1215 Middle Avenue

Elyria, OH

Open House Time Split:

To accommodate for limited parking, Open House will be split into two times:

Kindergarten Gradual Entry-Orientation:

Gradual entry is an arrangement by which our students begin the year by attending in smaller numbers for the first three days. Your child will attend only one of the three orientation days (Sept. 7th, 8th or 9th as indicated in the letter you'll receive in the mail). This lessens anxiety and ensures greater teacher/student contact. Children stay all day (9:10 am-3:10 pm) with their classroom teacher on their orientation day. Parents stay only until 10:00 am. All Kindergarten parents will be receiving a letter in the mail with their child's teacher name, room number and what day their orientation will be. All students will come to school on Friday, September 10 (no parents). If you have any questions or concerns please reach out to the front office at (440)284-8011.

Car Rider Arrival and Dismissal Location and Procedures:

All cars for student drop-off and pick-up will pull into the Main Office area. This is located on Middle Ave. Please enter the main office area through the 12th street entrance and exit onto Middle Avenue. The directional pattern is located in green on the map below. This allows for students to exit in the safest manner from the passenger side of the car and directly onto the school sidewalk.
Big picture

Walkers can enter and exit at the 13th Street entrance.

If your child is deemed a walker, please DO NOT park in the front lot by the Main Office for arrival and dismissal. In addition, DO NOT cross your student in front or behind busses on 13th street. We must make every attempt to maintain student safety during car and bus rider arrival and dismissal.
