BRANCHING OUT

December 23, 2021

Message from the Superintendent

As we look forward to our December vacation, I feel the anticipation and excitement for the holiday season. While the number of COVID-19 cases is on the rise, I am assuring you we are closely monitoring the situation and are working directly with the Nassau County Department of Health. The health and safety of our students and staff are our first priority. Please continue to follow our protocols, and be mindful of any COVID-19 related symptoms, such as fever, cough, shortness of breath, loss of appetite or sense of taste, and other symptoms outlined on the CDC website. Please contact your health care provider if you or your child experience any of these symptoms. During the Holiday Recess, please email your school administrators and school nurse of any COVID-19 cases (positive or close contact requiring quarantining) that would prevent your child from returning to school on January 3, 2022. I wish you and your family good health and happiness. Thank you as always for your continued partnership and support of our great District.

Pre-K Holiday Cheer!

Our Pre-K classes were able to enjoy some holiday cheer. Their parents were invited in to see them sing and play the bells to some beautiful holiday music. A special thank you to our amazing Pre-K staff who make it all happen.

Orchestra Students Perform at the December 13th Board of Education Meeting

Students from the John Lewis Childs School and Floral Park-Bellerose School performed beautiful music at the December 13, 2021 Board of Education Meeting. The performance was directed by Mr. David Elyaho. Their attention to details such as intonation, posture, and dynamics was amazing. Thank you students for gracing us with your amazing talent!

Ribbon Cutting Ceremonies

All good things start with a dream; the dream becomes a vision; the vision becomes a plan; and the plan becomes a reality. “

The District celebrated the completion of the facilities expansion project by hosting two Ribbon Cutting Ceremonies.

Floral Park-Bellerose School – December 9th

John Lewis Childs School – December 13th

The expansion project was a culmination of eight years of planning, and the efforts of many people within the community. Thank you to our District residents for passing the bond referendum on October 23, 2018, which was necessary to undertake this project. The goals initially included the implementation of a full-day kindergarten program and the construction of a 21st century learning environment including new STEM programs. Our expanded goals now include full-day pre-k, discovery labs, re-imagined libraries, APPLE coach training, advanced technology, a parent portal, and so much more to come.

Students performing at the Ribbon Cutting Ceremonies

Our students performed at each Ribbon Cutting Ceremony and then provided guided tours of our new extensions. They also provided great insight as they explained each new classroom. They were so articulate and they thoroughly enjoyed this experience.
