Mrs. Reiber's Apple Newsletter
May 1, 2017
Important Reminders
- Homework this week: Reading and spelling, both due on Friday. There is no math homework since students need to study nightly for the 100 fact tests (on Monday, Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday), and also for the math unit test about fractions on Tuesday. **The week of May 8th will be the FINAL week for HW. Yay.*
- May book orders are due by Thursday, May 11th online only please. You can order online with Scholastic and the code to help our class earn books is NDJXN. Thank you to all who have ordered so far this school year! This is the FINAL order.
- Yearbooks arrived last Friday and were sent home. If you would like to buy a copy, copies are limited and are first come, first served. Please send $12 with your child on Monday to buy a yearbook if desired.
- In May, students can look forward to the Second Grade Visit (May 10), Field Day (May 11 in the afternoon), 4th grade music program (May 17 during the day), a carnival with our 5th grade buddies (May 19), school-wide movie day (May 24), and the last day of school party (May 25 from 1:30-2:30 pm). I cannot believe the year is almost over!!
- MAP testing will occur this week on May 4 and May 5. The students are familiar with this computer test and it will be able to show their progress throughout the year. There is nothing to study for and no practice test online to take, so just encourage your child to try their best please. These scores are also used to determine "gifted" services for your child to receive next year, if they qualify.
Thanks,
Mrs. Reiber
IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENT
It is that time of year when I am asked to make my suggestions for the placement of our current third grade students for their fourth grade classes. If there is any student (in my class or in the entire third grade) that you would prefer to NOT be put in the same class as your child, please let me know. There are no guarantees but I will do my best when we place students. Thank you!
Special Awards
Congratulations to those students who earned a positive behavior sticker this week! We got excellent reports from ALL of our specials teachers too, which is something to celebrate!
Happy Birthday!
Nate's birthday is this week!
What we are learning in Room 12...
This is the area of the weekly newsletter where parents/guardians can be informed of what is planned for our week. If your child is going to be absent, please let me know in advance if possible, so I can send make-up work with them.
- Math - Students will take the end of unit test about fractions on Tuesday. A study guide went home on Friday afternoon with your child to study. Students are also taking the 100 fact tests this week for the final time (if they already passed, they do not take them again this time). After this, we will focus on our final geometry and measurement standards.
- Reading - We are working on writing and publishing poetry in our poetry unit.
- Writing/Spelling - There is a spelling test on Friday. This week's words are compound words. In writing class, we have finished all of our units for the year and are reviewing grammar standards.
- Social Studies - We will finish our year with two short units about economics and geography (mapping).
