Week of December 3rd
An Important Message from PTO
There is a wonderful Winter event coming up next week: the Winter Storybook Theater is Tuesday 12/4 from 5-7 PM. This event will feature Holiday Music by our own Jazz Band, hot cocoa, cookies, popcorn, FREE crafts and more! Come do some Holiday shopping at the BOOK FAIR, and then have them wrapped for free at the gift wrapping station. There will be a Holiday Book Reading in the PAC at 6:00 PM by a very special guest. We invite kids to wear their pajamas for a cozy night to kick of December.
We need a few volunteers for our bake sale, hot cocoa, gift wrap, etc… Volunteer slots are only 1 hour! Please consider volunteering, we need your help to make this sweet event a success for our library. Thank you!

WHAT'S HAPPENING IN THE CLASSROOM??
- Hour of Code: Next week, is Hour of Code Week! This is a week-long global movement celebrating the Computer Science field by encouraging every student to code for at least one hour. Students will have opportunities to code during class, and for every hour they code they get a raffle ticket to win some awesome prizes in the school wide raffle.
- Homework: Students need to get their weekly reflection signed and complete their homework bingo sheet and math problem on the back side (blue colored paper). Please have your child return their gray folder with their completed homework sheet by next Friday 12/7.
- Innovation: We will continue Week 2 of Innovation Block 2. Students are working on a design challenge in the Makerspace. Their task is to create the NEXT BIG INNOVATION by identify a group of people who are in need and either innovating something new or improving something that already exists to help them. This week students will work in teams to create their prototype based on the ideas their group has come up with.
- Language Arts -We will be continuing Unit 4-Comparing Points of View! Click here for the parent letter to read about what we are going to be learning in class over the next three weeks!
- Math -UNIT 3: Problem Solving with Multiplication and Division. Click here for the Unit 3 parent letter with lots of great information about what standards we will be covering and the academic vocabulary we will be using. Continue to practice your multiplication facts at home!!!
- Writing -Students will be using the information from their ELA magazines to compare and contrast their point of view with the narrator's point of view of various stories.
- Spelling- We will be studying words with the consonant -le pattern.
- Vocabulary- Students will be able to use reference materials to build their vocabulary. They will show their understanding of the words by using them in a sentence during collaborative conversations and in their writing. Some of our vocabulary words we will focus on in this unit are compose, detestable, toil, impulsive and snatched.
- 7 Habits - Habit 6: Synergize. We are focusing on this in all areas of the classroom and especially in makerspace as students work in teams as they go through the design thinking process.
If you have any box tops at home please send them in! We collect box tops in the classroom all year long!
