Staff Spotlight ~ Mrs. Sumler

Mrs. Sumler is a 2nd Grade teacher at our school! She has been with the Oak Park School District for since 2006...that's 15 years! In the words of one of our staff members: There aren’t enough words to describe this awesome educator. She is dedicated and driven to reach every child so they don’t fall between the cracks. She targets in on each child’s needs and makes me a better educator as well as others. Her warmth and care is appreciated by her students and parents. She will stop at nothing to get the job done… any job. I’m thankful for having her as a colleague and a wonderful educator!

Kudos to Mrs. Sumler for always going above and beyond by giving of herself tirelessly to her students, staff, and colleagues.

Pictured below: This past week, Mrs. Sumler and her students were working on a writing lesson and using transitional words (i.e. first, next, then, etc.). She conferenced with each student to help them edit their work!

Parents...

  • Thank you to the 140 parents who joined us for our fall parent-teacher conferences! Please remember, you can find your child's progress report online in your Parent Connect (MISTAR Portal).
  • Children have not been in a "schoolhouse" / regular school since March 2020. Please talk with your children about "how to act at school" --> Obeying the rules, listening, cooperating with others, behaving appropriately and being kind.
  • Remind your children not to share their lunches. Students are not to share food. They never know what allergies another student has.

Social Work Corner

October is National Bully Prevention Month. The staff of Key Elementary is strictly against any bullying. Parents, please speak with your child(ren) about bullying and make sure they understand what bullying is/is not. Please see the picture below that gives more information about the differences between regular conflict vs. being rude vs. being mean vs. bullying.
