Change is Positive!
Dear Firebird Families -
The AYL (Arizona Youth Lacrosse League - Youth) has 'unofficially approved' the formation of a new team in our area. The boundaries of the new youth team follow the boundaries of the high school teams we feed into via ALL (Arizona Lacrosse League - High School). We expect that this change will be official in the next couple of weeks.
The boundary rules for ALL state that you will play for the home team school that you go to. If you don't go to the home school, you may choose whichever is closest to a 'home' school based on your residential address or academic address. The home school for the Dogs is Chandler HS (and could soon be Hamitlon HS), and for the Pumas is Perry HS. The Dogs pull Chandler, Hamitlon, and ACP Erie. The Pumas pull Perry, Basha and Casteel. So, for example, if you are supposed to go to Basha HS, but you choose to go to ACP Erie, you can choose based on residential (Pumas) or academic (Dogs). I realize that this decision may be years away if you have an elementary school player, but we want you to be aware of the possible long-term impact.
What this means to you:
- If you currently play for the Firebirds, you may stay with the Firebirds.
- If you currently play for the Firebirds, but will fall into the Dogs boundaries in high school, you may choose to stay with the Firebirds or go with the new team.
- If you currently play for the Firebirds and will fall into the Pumas boundaries in high school you will remain with the Firebirds.
- Any new players coming in after the official date will be playing for the appropriate team according to boundaries.
- AYL boundary waivers remain in force: 2 per age group, outgoing or incoming.
This may seem complicated, especially for new players and families. We will work together to answer any questions you may have. You can reach me directly via text at 864-630-8788, or email, lmcw01@gmail.com. You can reach the leadership of the new team via ChandlerLaxDogs@Gmail.com. You can reach the AYL Board decision makers via AZLax.org.
