Principal’s Message

Happy Friday, Vista High!

I am so proud of our students and staff for completing their first full week of the new school year! Our students have started to settle into our new routine as they dive into their coursework and start their extracurricular activities.

As a reminder, our students’ attendance matters! Did you know that attendance is the leading indicator of graduation rates? If a student arrives just ten minutes late each day, that’s 30 hours of lost instruction over the course of a school year. We miss you when you’re not here! Remember, there are no more late start Mondays, and school begins at 8:30 every day. We look forward to seeing you ready to learn at 8:30 each day.

Character counts at Vista High School, and each grading period we focus on one of the six Pillars of Character: Responsibility, Caring, Respect, Trustworthiness, Citizenship, and Fairness. This grading period, we are focusing on RESPECT. The conversations we will have with students around respect include statements like this: When we show respect to each other, everyone has a safe and welcoming place to learn. What are some ways you could discuss respect at home to reinforce this message?

Speaking of respect, the beginning of the year is a great time to focus on school parking lot procedures. Please drive slowly and cautiously when entering Vista High School by car. To drop off students, please go to the back of the school and follow the Campus Assistant’s stop sign and crosswalk directions. Our Campus Assistants are posted throughout the traffic route to greet you and help you follow correct traffic patterns for everyone’s safety. If you are a visitor, please park in the designated visitor parking spots, and avoid leaving your car unattended in the traffic lanes at any time. Students, please park in the back lot and remember, phones should never be out while driving, even in a parking lot! A best practice for new drivers is to keep your cell phone in the back seat, or even the trunk! Thank you for helping us keep everyone safe.

Have a wonderful weekend, Vista High! Go Panthers!

Important Reminders from the Attendance Office

As we start the new school year, we'd like to remind all families about some key things to remember regarding attendance and picking up students from school during the school day:

Early Release:

- Please call attendance 2 hours in advance if a student needs to be released early.

- There is no early student release after 2:50 p.m.

- A parent or legal guardian must call to release a student and must present a valid government ID (Driver's License, Passport, Military ID).

- Only persons listed on the contact list in Aeries with a valid government ID can pick up a student.

Excusing an Absence:

- Families have 72 hours to clear an absence.

- Legal notes must be provided for an absence to be cleared after a student has reached 10 excused absences.

Phishing Emails - Beware

We are working diligently across the district to provide education and support to students and staff related to challenges that arise from the internet and email. Just recently schools across the state and nation, including within our own district, have been subject to email Phishing (pronounced “fishing”) attacks. Phishing emails are fraudulent messages sent by malicious individuals outside of our district pretending to be someone else, often with the intention of stealing sensitive information or tricking the recipient into taking harmful actions.

The purpose of these phishing emails was to deceive students into revealing personal contact and financial information, to avoid detection by district security systems.

To ensure the safety of our community, we strongly encourage you to remain vigilant and take the following precautions:

  • Be conscious when opening emails, verify the sender's email address and double check the content for any suspicious or unexpected requests.

  • Avoid clicking on unfamiliar links or downloading attachments. If you receive an email with a link or attachment that seems unusual or is unexpected. It is best to avoid clicking on it until you confirm its legitimacy.

  • Report any suspicious emails. If you receive a phishing email, please report it using the tools available in your email program.

  • Educate your child about phishing. Talk to your child about the importance of not sharing personal information online and being cautious when interacting with emails, especially those that ask for sensitive information.

We are committed to maintaining a safe and secure online environment for our schools, and we appreciate your cooperation and understanding.

If you have any further questions or concerns, please don't hesitate to reach out to our IT Department Monday - Friday from 8:00am - 3:30pm at servicedesk@vistausd.org or 760-726-2170 extension 92500.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

If your physical does not meet the requirement, you will need to get an updated physical. If you have a valid physical on file with the Athletic Department, you will need to stop into the Athletic Training Room on the dates listed in the flyer to pick-up your hard-copy of your physical and upload it to Home Campus. Vista High will no longer be accepting hard copy physicals. Students are responsible for uploading their physicals.
