Expectation of Excellence ~ Friday, September 26, 2014
A Message from the Principal...
Dear Brentwood families,
I had the wonderful opportunity to spend time with the 5th grade students, teachers and several parent volunteers last week during our annual Jameson camp overnight. We were busy every moment with team building and learning activities. Some of the learning activities included exploring animal adaptations, math in the “real” world, a challenge course and survival skills. It was evident to see that not only did our kids learn through these experiential opportunities but they were also able to build a very strong 5th grade team that will last throughout the year. Have a good week! Ms. Vamos
Students of the Week
Meet our Staff MVP of the Week ~ Mrs. Janalyn Habig, Kitchen Manager
Janalyn has worked in the Brentwood cafeteria for 15 years. She has been married to her husband David for 28 years and they have two sons, Joseph & John. In her spare time Janalyn enjoys spending time with her two grandsons, Liam 3 years old and London 4 months old. Her love of children has always been weaved into her life. Before working in the cafeteria she ran a daycare out of her home.
Janalyn’s Favorites:
Color – RedMovie – Toy Story
Book – The Giving Tree
Song – “How Great Thou Art”
Restaurant – El Meson
Candy – Snickers
Vacation– Europe Trip on board the Queen Elizabeth II
Janalyn loves reading and working in her flower garden. She also does volunteer work to support our military.
Janalyn says she loves when she is out in public and students come up to her and recognize her as their “Lunch Lady”. She makes such an impact on the students that come through Brentwood that she even has them coming up to her long after they have graduated! Secretary, Kristy Donovan had nothing but wonderful things to say about Janalyn: “Janalyn has the biggest heart! She completely loves her job and these kids!”
“Nutrition is important. My advice to parents is to have their children go grocery shopping and see all the fruits and vegetables that are available. Let them help pick out new foods to try! Talk about food and healthy choices - be an example to them! Get them to help prepare the meals and make it fun! Have special theme nights with dinner! The best gift we have to give to our children is our time and our love. Enjoy them, they grow up way too fast!”
From the Nurse...
- Bright Smiles at Brentwood!
On November 4th the mobile dentists will be at Brentwood to do a dental cleaning, x-rays, and dental sealants. If your child is due for dental care this is a great way to get it without him/her missing out on much classroom instruction. The Smile Program of Indiana will bill your insurance (including Medicaid) or can cover the cost of the dental visit if you qualify for a grant. Forms to sign up will be going home with students next week. Call Nurse Gyori if you have any questions at 838-3652. - Clothing in the Clinic
There is an over-abundance of lost jackets, sweaters, and lunch boxes in the Lost & Found. Please remind your child to check to see if any might be his/her's.
If your student had an accident at school that required a change of clothing, please wash what they borrowed from the clinic and return it to school. My stock of elastic waisted pants is dwindling and we have a long way to go until May 2015. Also, if you have any gently worn girl's or boy's plants/sweats consider donating them here!

Transportation & Dismissal Info
All car riders arriving in the morning should be dropped off in our car rider lane NOT in our Visitor Parking lot. This ensures they are not crossing over any traffic. If you child is being dropped off late an adult must come into the office with them to sign them in.
If your child rides the bus to school and will be eating breakfast in the cafeteria please talk to them about going straight to the cafeteria to get their breakfast. This will give them the most time to eat a healthy breakfast possible.
Dismissal Changes:
- If you need to change your child's dismissal instructions the best way to do this is to send a signed note into your child's teacher.
- If this is impossible please call the office NO LATER THAN 3:00 p.m. to ensure the dismissal change gets to your child's teacher in a timely matter.
Transportation:
If you are permanently changing how your child goes home or if you move please notify our office at 317-839-4802, as well as Transportation at 317-838-3632, and submit a new Transportation Form to the office.
