Attention Senior Parents:
BVSW Counselors will be hosting a virtual College 101 Presentation on Wednesday, 9/30/20 at 6:30 pm. The intent of this program is to help the first time parent of a senior navigate the college application process. We will discuss all things Naviance from transcript requests to recommendation letters. We will even sprinkle in some Common Application and FAFSA information! Mark your calendars for Wednesday, 9/30/20. We will be emailing a link for all seniors and their parents to tune in via Zoom if they wish.
Can’t attend? No worries! We will post a recording of the program on the counseling canvas page following the presentation.

AP Exam Information:
Deadline for students to order exams for year long classes without late fee is October 30th.
There are two steps for students to fully register for an AP Exam.
○ 1- Using the Join Code teachers provide them with on College Board website
○ 2- Actually paying for the exam on Total Registration website
■ If a student does not complete BOTH of these steps by Oct. 30th, the exam will not be ordered.
● Please get your College Board Join Code from your AP Teacher
● Here is the link to pay for the exam: https://user.totalregistration.net/register/get_student_email_status.php?ceeb=172302&is School=1&testMode=1
Reminder: students need to use their existing accounts for Total Registration and College Board (they have these accounts if they tested for AP in the past). Students should not create a new account if they do not remember their login information. They must go through the steps to gain the login information from College Board, Southwest does not have the details.
If you are taking a virtual AP class that is taught by a teacher not from Blue Valley Southwest, the AP Coordinator will give you the College Board join code.
If you have any questions please contact your AP teachers or the AP Coordinator. AP Coordinator: Casey Weber cmweber@bluevalleyk12.org
Gay Straight Alliance
If you are interested in joining a group of LGBT+ identifying people and allies, learning about LGBT+ culture and history, or just having a good time with your friends, then the Gay Straight Alliance is something that you could enjoy!
High school is difficult for everyone, but additional factors can create even more of a struggle for certain students. Being LGBT+ can make students feel like they are outcasts, unsure about themselves, and feeling as if they have a secret that they will have to keep forever. The Gay Straight Alliance attempts to create a community where these students can give and recieve support.
If you are interested in joining the GSA, you can apply here: https://forms.gle/S2hLEvvhKy5EzU7W7 and if you have any questions, you can email the club at TheBVSWGSA@gmail.com or email Ms. Hurst at MHurst@BluevalleyK12.org
college now information
College Now Course Placement Test Requirements - To assist students during the COVID-19 pandemic, our faculty has created several pathways for students who need to enroll in College Now courses that have a placement test requirement. For a complete list of how students can place into their courses, go to www.jccc.edu/CollegeNow. The link in Step 2 includes instructions on how to request a placement waiver if the placement requirement is met with an ACT score, AP test score, or high school GPA. For those who do not have a qualifying test score, this web page also provides a link for students to sign up for an appointment to take the Accuplacer test.
Due to required social distancing measures in our Testing Center, seating will be limited. It will be very important this year for students to schedule an appointment to do their placement testing early and not wait until the enrollment deadline week.
Quick Step Plus College Algebra Placement Test - Students who have an ACT Math score of 22 or higher may request a placement waiver for Quick Step Plus College Algebra by going to www.jccc.edu/QuickStepPlus. Students who do not have a qualifying ACT Math score will receive directions from their instructor on how to take the ALEKS placement test online.
Important Reminder - Be sure to complete all steps in the enrollment process. Students who obtain a placement waiver still need to log in to MyJCCC, register for the course, and pay their tuition. The fall College Now and Quick Step Plus enrollment deadline is Friday, Oct 16!
Additional Information is available on the BVSW Counseling Canvas

athletic event spectators
Southwest Events
At this time, spectators at Southwest athletic events will be limited to the immediate family members of rostered athletes. This procedure will be in place for schools that are visiting Southwest as well. The Blue Valley District is currently in the process of having cameras installed in all of our high school district stadiums and gymnasiums so that we can livestream our games. Our plan is to be able to start livestreaming games by Friday, September 25th. All varsity and sub varsity games are scheduled to be broadcast via the NFHS network. Thank you for your patience and support!
