First Spirit Day of the 21/22 School Year
Student Council has voted and our first Spirit Day of the 21/22 School Year will be:
Favorite Sports Team Day.
It will be on Friday, September 17. Students should dress up in their favorite team's sports gear. Hats are allowed. All gear/hats must be school appropriate!!
Art Painting Party
Art Painting Party is open to ANY and ALL students of BURKHOLDER, not just Art Students!!!
For those interested, we will start our after school Painting Party on Thursday, September 16th, 2:30-3:30.
The painting party will be the 3rd Thursday of each month!
Each painting party is $20 and please pay the Banker ONE week before you are interested in coming to the painting party, so I will have your art supplies and snack with drink ready for you!
Here are the dates for the Painting Party:

March 17th
April 21st (*end of year celebration)
Each painting party is $20. Please pay the Banker ONE week before the painting party!
You will get to create your own, one-of-a-kind artwork to take home! You will also receive a snack and enjoy 1 hour of painting in this creative and fun class! :)
In this class, we will learn new acrylic painting techniques and be able to develop our artistic voice and style as we have fun painting!

Band
An exciting addition to this year's program is our new Pep Band! This is an after school class that meets Monday-Thursday. They are learning stand tunes and pep band music so expect to see them performing at basketball games, local elementary schools, Burkholder events and other places in the city! There are students in this class learning a secondary instrument and truly growing as musicians! We are looking forward to performing for you soon!
Concert dates for all bands are December 9th, 2021 and May 5th, 2022. Mark your calendars and come support our students and band program!

Employment Opportunity at Burkholder MS
Burkholder Middle School is currently looking to fill two support professional positions for the 21-22 school year.
Both positions are SPTA (Specialized Programs Teacher Assistant) and are 9 months. The positions are 6 hours plus a 30 minute lunch (similar to student hours).
Both positions are one-on-one aide positions working directly with a student in a specialized classroom.

Parent and Guardian Guidance Checking Your Student Before Leaving Home
Parents/Guardians must utilize the Parent and Guardian Guidance Checking Your Student Before Leaving Home to check for symptoms/conditions prior to sending the student to school. If a student shows any symptoms/conditions, keep the student at home and contact your medical provider for guidance.

Virtual Parent Meeting: Boys and Girls Flag Football
We are so excited to share that Burkholder Middle School will be hosting a Boys and Girls Flag Football team this fall. Your student has shown interest in participating and playing for the team and was provided with a few handouts explaining some important information on the upcoming season. Those handouts are also attached to this email for your reference.

College Readiness Bootcamp
We wanted to make you aware of this free opportunity for 8th-12th grade students and their parents. The annual College Readiness Bootcamp on Saturday, September 18 from 8AM to 3PM will include advice from current college students, hands-on support applying for in-state and out-of-state schools and financial aid, and specific sessions for parents and students, as well as a special tour of UNLV and a free dining hall meal.
