What are Hard Drives?
A hard drive is a disk drive used to read from and write to a hard disk. All computers and servers have a hard drive of some capacity and speed. Some hard drives (VHS machines) have space to store data. Hard drives store informtion in programs, computers, servers and camcorders. There are many different types of hard drives for example, ATA, Firewire, SCSI, RAID and fibre channel and many more.
What is an Optical Drive?
In computing, a optical disk drive is a disk drive that uses laser light or electromagnetic waves within or near the visible light spectrum as part of the process of reading and writing data to or from optical disks. Some drives can only read from disks where others can read and record. Examples of optical drives are CD-ROM drive, DVD-ROM drive, CD-RW-drive and DVD-ROM/CD-RW drive.
What are Monitors?
Computer monitors are available using several tyes of technology. The main monitor is Liquid crystal display (LCD) which is usually really thin and light. The cathode ray tube (CRT) is the second most popular version. It is usually really heavy and bulky, sort of like an old television (but smaller). Some of the less common technologies used are plazma monitors, surface conduction, electron admitter monitors, organic light emitting diodes and video projector displays.
What are Input devises?
Input devises enable a user to input data and commands the computer to be processed. The keyboard is the most widely used input devise. As you press keys on the keyboard, an electrical signal representing that key is sent to the computer. Other examples of input devises are; a mouse, a scanner, a touch pad, a light pen, a tracker ball, a joystick and a graphics tablet.
What are Output devises?
An output devise is an electronic or electromechanical piece of equipment that is connected to a computer and is used to transfer data out of the computer in a form of text, image sounds or other medias. Examples of output devises include things like speakers, headphones, printers, monitors (screens) and projectors.
What are Touch screens?
A touch screen is a display devise which allows the user to interact with a computer by touching areas on the screen. There are many touch screen devises including the Archos 7, apple iphone 3G S, HP TouchSmart IQ804 Desktop, Dell Latitude XT2 Multi-Touch Tablet and Nikon Coolpix S60.
What is a CPU?
CPU stands for Central Processing Unit. A CPU is the hardware within a computer that carries out the instructions of a computer program by peforming the basic arithmetical, logical and input/output operations of the system. It is where all the searching, sorting, calculating and decision making takes place in the computer.
What is a RAM?
RAM stands for Random Access Memory. It is a type of computer memory that can be accessed randomly. RAM is the most common type of memoy found in computers and other devises such as printersMotherboards tim berners leealan turing the 4 generations of computers
