Family/Community Resources
This week we launched a Family Resource page on the district’s website. This page provides a searchable list that families, community members and school staff can utilize to help find community resources in order to meet a family’s needs. The list is searchable by agency name, zip code and category. Categories include such areas as basic needs (food assistance, housing assistance), health care (medical, dental, vision), and mental health (substance abuse, counseling, etc.).
The family resource page can be found at https://www.pisd.edu/familyresources

Morning Carpool
- For safety for all, we ask that your vehicle does not stop on the crosswalk. Please look for pedestrians.
- We appreciate you waiting patiently and following the cars before you. Even when things move slowly, it is safer to wait then to drive around (frog hop) it.
- As always, arriving at school closer to 7:30 am is a win for our children. When they're here early, they are ready for a successful day.
- FYI, your child does not have to wait for someone to open the door. If the car has come to a complete stop, they may open their own door to exit. Thank you.

Nurses Corner
I just wanted to let everyone know about a great opportunity we have in PISD. The Lion’s club sponsors a yearly vision clinic in which they provide exams and glasses to children that qualify. I have included links to the letters for the two dates (Tuesday, January 21st, 2020 and Tuesday, February 18th, 2020). Please look over the qualifications if your child is one that needs an exam. I have been sending out vision referral letters to those that have not passed their vision exams this year and if your income is a certain level, you may qualify. If you do, please fill out the attached form and submit it to me. I will get a hold of the PISD Lion’s club contact and let you know when you can arrive to have your child examined. Please let me know if you have any questions.
On a different note, there have been some questions about how many cases of flu and strep are in our school currently. Unfortunately, due to HIPPA privacy laws, I cannot disclose this information. What I can do is provide a link that allows you to check the amount of flu cases in the area. This will help you to prepare and monitor your children, but unfortunately, will not tell you specifics. https://www.dshs.state.tx.us/IDCU/disease/influenza/surveillance/2019.aspx
Please know that we are doing everything we can to keep your children symptom free by sending students home that have these symptoms; fever, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, or eye drainage. You can do your part by not sending your children to school if they exhibit any of these symptoms as well. Thank you for your help and have a wonderful winter break!
