All School Reading Homework Begins Next Week, October 18
As discussed at all Curriculum Nights, we are very excited about our new reading and writing curriculum from the American Reading Company. The required reading at home (15 for kindergarten and 30 minutes for Grades 1-4) is our only homework this school year!
This year, your child’s classroom will participate in 100 Book Challenge. Your child will be doing lots of reading in school and at home. The reason for this program is simple: Research shows that students who read for one hour every day, from books that they can read and want to read, have a much better chance for success in school and beyond. The more time your child spends reading at his or her independent level, the better reader he or she will become. We need your help!
Every night your child will bring home books and a log sheet. Each log sheet line equals one 15-minute Step. Your child should read for at least 30 minutes per night. When she or he does, she or he will fill in two Steps, and you should sign for both. If you have a kindergartener, this is just one 15 minutes Step. Our students in Grades 1-4 will earn 100 Book Challenge "coins" for completing 15 minute lines, 100 times on their reading log!
Use this time to sit with your child as the Home Reading Coach. The reading should be easy and fun for your child. It should not be a struggle. We are requesting that you sign on as your child’s Home Coach. The job involves only 5 things, click on the button below to read more details.
You may have already received this form from your child's teacher and returned it. If you did, you are all set! If not, please click the button below, print out this form, sign it and return to school.
Thank you for your partnership in supporting your child's literacy!

Peanut and Nut Free Lunches from Home
In order to ensure adequate social distancing, we have added more seating area to accommodate our grade level lunches. As a result, we do not have the flexibility with seating that we have had in the past to allow for students to bring peanut and nut items in their lunches. It is extremely important that students bring peanut and nut-free lunches to school. This effort will go a long way to protect all students and is greatly appreciated.
Snacks in the classroom do not need to be peanut and nut-free unless your classroom teacher has made you aware of an allergy accommodation in your student’s class.
