The Manning Weekly Newsletter
February 19, 2021
Manning Community,
On another note, you may be aware that the Jefferson County BOE and Interim Superintendent Kristopher Schuh are currently working toward a plan to return secondary students to a 100% in-person learning model this year. Principals have been asked to seek feedback from our families that are currently in our hybrid model. The survey below will allow me to share our families' thoughts and druthers about returning to in-person learning this year.
Please note that this survey is only for our current hybrid families. Remote families will continue to be remote unless an alternative request is made and approved by Manning administration. Manning will work to equitably meet alternative requests but will be bound by schedules, class sizes, and resources.
Also, parent partnership met on Tuesday evening and we had a thorough dialogue about the return to 100% in-person learning. The overwhelming majority of our parent partnership group supported an April 5th return based on the fact that all staff should have their second vaccine shot by that time. Also, April 5th is the Monday after spring break, an intuitive time to make a change of this magnitude.
My "final ask" for this survey is that you involve your student in the survey process. It is critical that student voice is part of any schoolwide change and I believe this is an opportune moment to teach our students about the importance of understanding the implications of decisions that impact a community.
If you have any questions whatsoever, you know I'm available by email or by phone. You can reach me at Christian.Ramaker@jeffco.k12.co.us or on my office line at (303) 982-0489. I know that this is a big change, and the Manning staff, as always, will be here to support our families in a smooth transition to 100% in-person learning.
Stronger Together,
Christian Ramaker

HIGH SCHOOL REGISTRATION IS OPEN!
Hello Manning 8th Graders!
As you may have seen in the class of 2025 Google Classroom, the process of registering for 9th grade has started. With the complexity of this year, our four main high schools have created google forms for you and your family to fill out to request BOTH electives and core classes. Future Wheat Ridge students will request electives later. Even if you have entered your class requests on infinite campus, please complete your future high school's google form to ensure your requests are entered.
After students have submitted their requests for classes, the counselors here at Manning will receive those requests and pass them along for teacher approval. It is important that you complete the google form for your future high school. Please complete the form with which classes you want/feel would be best fit for you. Teachers will give their recommendations after. If the google form has classes with "A" and "B" at the end of the course name, they are yearlong courses, and you need to select both A and B.
Please complete the appropriate google form below:
Wheat Ridge High School (Only Core classes are requested at this time)
If you are attending a school different than the main four high schools we feed into, you should receive information from those specific schools about the process to register. If you have any questions, please reach out to the counselors at that high school.
Please contact Mr. Gordon (guy.gordon@jeffco.k12.co.us) or Ms. Ewald (rebecca.ewald@jeffco.k12.co.us) if you have any further questions. We apologize for this change and any confusion. but we appreciate your patience and understanding.
Thank you

Smart but Scattered Session - February 25, 2021
Presenter Info: Dr. Peg Dawson is an internationally known school psychologist specializing in executive skills for schools and organizations.
Strategies for Parents and Families: Helping Children and Teens Strengthen Executive Skills to Reach Their Full Potential Executive skills are brain functions which help us to accomplish goals, overcome challenges, plan and organize activities, and work to complete a task. These skills are critical to learning and while some students seem to acquire them naturally, many struggle to develop them. Join us for a session with Dr. Peg Dawson, to learn how these skills develop in children and strategies parents and families can use to help their children be successful learners.

A Message from the PTA
Attention parents: We need yearbook help! As you can imagine, putting together a yearbook in a year with very few organized activities and with students masked up while in the building has offered some challenges. If you have spare time between now and Spring Break, there are two ways you could help- 1) Collecting images from various students and 2) Building pages (*layout, background) and adding images.
If you can help, please email Karen.Edoff@jeffco.k12.co.us for more information. Thanks in advance!
Reminder 8th grade parents: Well wishes are due Thursday, February 25! Please be sure you submit yours before the deadline.

Positive Youth Development Training
Friday, March 19th 9:00 AM to 12:30 PM
Positive Youth Development is an approach that helps youth serving organizations, business owners, educators, city governments, parents and whole communities. Gain a better understanding of where adolescents may be coming from by looking through a developmental lens, and how to best support youth in this turbulent time. PYD serves to increase protective factors, such as healthy youth/adult relationships and works towards promoting healthy youth behaviors and outcomes while diminishing the likelihood of negative health and social outcomes (risk factors).
Snow Day Information:
- For Middle/High Schools, if a snow day is called, unless the district communicates otherwise, it will be a “Remote Learning Day”, meaning students will continue the ABAB rotation (or whatever schedule the school follows) but it will be remote learning with no in person instruction.
