Dear Parents,
Winter break is a wonderful time to enjoy your family and friends. I encourage you to take some time to read a story together as a family. Below is a QR code of me reading a story to some students. Please feel free to watch with your child. Reading is such a wonderful way to bond as a family and to support your child’s learning.
I will be spending time with my husband Rick, my daughter Chandler, and her husband Andrew, along with my other daughter Courtland. Chandler and Andrew live in Atlanta and Courtland lives in Dallas, but she will move to Florida in January. We will spend Christmas Eve with our neighbors. This is a tradition that we have done for the past 18 years. We will go to church, have dinner, and then we will drive around looking at Christmas lights.
FUN FACT: Did you know that Ms. Payne, one of our 5th grade teachers, grew up across the street from me, and we have spent the past 18 years together on Christmas Eve? I am so proud that I was able to watch her grow up and become such an amazing teacher at Hairgrove. I look forward to watching our current Hairgrove students grow up and achieve their dreams too.
Many families participate in some form of gift-giving during December. My family also loves to exchange gifts. However, some families are not able to provide gifts and/or feed their families, and a wonderful lesson to share with your children is it is often better to give than to receive. Encourage your children to give back. Depending on their ages, children can rake leaves for an elderly neighbor, do the dishes for a grandparent, or spend time with an aunt playing a game. The entire family can donate canned foods or toys to a store or shelter. When children give their time and energy to help others, they are less likely to take things like health, home, and family for granted. In addition, they develop empathy and compassion, which supports a happier life.
I hope that this winter you are able to spend quality time with your family and friends, and maybe even have an opportunity to give back to others.

Our PTO board members will purchase the treats and distribute to our classes.
Please send the $2.00 to your child’s teacher in the envelope provided by December 13th so that the PTO can begin making the purchases.Your donation will be greatly appreciated in supporting this special day and supporting your child.
Choir Program and Pictures with Santa
“Reindeer Unite” performed by the Hairgrove Choir and Pictures With Santa Tuesday, December 10th.
You are invited to watch our Hairgrove Choir perform “Reindeer Unite”. After the program, SANTA will be here to take pictures with your child. Pictures with SANTA will cost $5.00 per picture, and that includes a frame that you may decorate together as a family. The frame is included while supplies last.
Pictures will be developed the following day and sent home by the end of the week. This is a great opportunity for your family to take a photo together and a great fundraiser for the campus.
- 5:45-6:00: Tickets will be sold for Santa pictures that will have a number on it so that we may call families in order.
- 6:00-6:30: 4th/5th Grade Choir Concert – Tickets will resume being sold for Santa pictures after the performance.
- 6:30-7:15: Pictures with SANTA – Families will be called by groups according to ticket numbers for Santa pictures.
We appreciate your patience as you wait for your family to be called to take the picture.
Only families in line for pictures by 7:15 will be able to see Santa. Pictures will be sent home with your child by Thursday, December 12th.
SURPRISE VISITORS IN HAIRGROVE'S LIBRARY
Dinovember has come to an end, but we are all hoping our dinosaurs will return next year!
We read the book, What the Dinosaurs Did Last Night by Refe and Susan Tuma, and dinosaurs invaded Hairgrove, leaving a trail of mischief in our classrooms, library, and atrium. If you hear something rattle and roar, watch out! Dinosaurs may have found a new place to have some fun! Why Dinovember? Because at Hairgrove, we celebrate reading every day!
Math News
Prodigy – This program will allow your child to practice math skills in a problem solving format.
If you have any questions about either of these programs, please contact your child’s math teacher.
Car Riders
Safety is always our top priority. We are asking our car rider parents to please be aware of both our students and staff during car rider dismissal. To help with the traffic flow, we use a staff member to direct traffic between the two lanes. However, there have been several times that the staff member doing duty has felt unsafe. Please be aware that your foot remains on the break as your child enters the car and aware of other students and staff in the area. As a reminder, it is illegal to be on a cell phone in a school zone. We do not want any staff members or students to be hurt. Thank you so much for your support in this matter.
Music Notes
Singsations is practicing diligently for their upcoming program Reindeer Unite. Only one more rehearsal, Wednesday, December 4!
The performance will be on Tuesday, December 10 at 8:30 a.m. and 6:00 p.m. Please be in the choir room at 5:30 to put on your costume. You’ve worked so hard, invite lots of friends and family to come hear your great performance.

ART NEWS
Love to draw, but don’t have a lot of extra paper? USE A SKETCHBOOK! A sketchbook is a safe place where artists can create a visual journal to practice and develop their drawing skills. Observation drawings, doodles, and drawing from the imagination can be easily combined in the same place. Grab a sketchbook and your favorite art making tools and let the magic happen!

NURSE HALEY'S NEWS:
Tis the season for illnesses such as the Flu and colds. Here are a few reminders to stay healthy:
- Eating healthy
- Getting plenty of rest
- Exercising
- Drinking water
- Washing our hands
- Covering our cough and sneezes
Student’s need to stay home if they have any of the following (also found in District website):
Guidelines for Keeping Sick Children Home from School
A sick child who is unable to participate in school in a meaningful way should be kept home to rest and recover until symptoms resolve. Keeping a sick child home also protects other children, school staff, and visiting community members from contracting an illness that can be spread from person to person. Please be aware of the following guidelines for school attendance.
- Fever: A child must remain home with fever > 100° F and may only return after he/she has been fever free for 24 hours without fever-reducing medicine such as Tylenol or Motrin.
- Diarrhea/Vomiting: A child with diarrhea and/or vomiting must stay at home and may return to school only after being symptom-free for 24 hours.
- Conjunctivitis (Pink Eye): Following a diagnosis of pink eye, a child may return to school 24 hours after the first dose of prescribed medication has been administered.
- Rashes: Common infectious diseases with rashes are most contagious in the early stages. A child with a suspicious rash must stay at home and may return to school only after a health care provider has made a diagnosis and authorizes the child's return to school in writing or have symptoms resolved completely.
- Head lice (pediculosis): Students who have an active case of live lice may attend school only after treatment which eliminates all live lice. Head lice do not jump or fly and are most commonly contracted by head-to-head touch. Head lice are common in school-aged children, so parents should routinely monitor children for live lice and teach the avoidance of behaviors that spread lice.
If you take your child to a healthcare provider for an evaluation of illness or injury, please be sure to request a written letter stating when your child may return to school and any accommodations required upon his/her return.
A healthy school community requires parents and schools to partner with each other. To prevent/minimize local outbreaks of contagious disease, parents must keep children who have an illness that can be spread from person to person at home, and CFISD school nurses will exclude students with symptoms of a communicable illness from school attendance.
Friendly Reminder:
Pre-K and Kindergarten parents continue sending a pair of clean clothes in student’s backpack in case of any accidents.
