Family Structure
-An extended family is the basis of society in Nicaragua.
-In rural areas family's tend to build houses next to each other to be close
-If you are high-class family you will have up to two kids, if you are a mid-class family you will have up to 3 or 4 kids, and if you are a low-class family you will have up to 6 kids.
Gender Roles
-Girls at the age of 12 begin to help with household chores such as cleaning, cooking, and shopping.
-Boys at the age of 7 help there father harvest the land and milk the cows.
-Father is considered the head of the house.
Child's Relationship with Parents
-As a child you live with your family until, and even after you marry.
-If you are employed and still living with family you have to support the family financially.
-As a young boy or girl, the parents will hire another mother to watch over the child.
Interesting Fact
Both men and women gain social status by being a parent.
