Vikan News
Vikan Knights, ARMOR Up!
From Principal Velez
Hello Vikan Community,
I apologize for the delay in sending the Vikan News from last week. I am very excited to share with you a project that the Creative Writing class has created. It is a cookbook with lots of recipes. Ms. VanderPloeg, Teacher, and the 7th Grade Creative Writing Knights have been working on this project for a while. They are beyond static to share it with you.
Please click HERE (or on the picture below) to access the 7th Grade Creative Class Cookbook. If you try a recipe, please let us know so that we can share your feedback with our students.

Tutoring Opportunity for Students
Tutoring opportunity for Vikan students. Is your student missing assignments, struggling in class, and or needing some extra help? Every other Friday morning from 7:30-8:20 in the library we will have some student tutors and high school tutors, available to help support your student with academics. Space is limited. Students who choose to participate need to be motivated and willing to work - this is not social time. Please click here to sign your student up for academic support.
If you have any questions please contact Ms. Rachael Plichta at rplichta@sd27j.net
Achieve Institute (AI) Field Trip
Achieve Institute (AI) Families,
We have a couple of exciting announcements and need your help in supporting Vikan's AI students in achieving them.
First, Please mark your calendars for May 18, 2023. AI students will be displaying their work towards their AI goals in a Gallery Walk style. This will be held at Vikan Middle School's Library. Students will be present with their products from 8:30-10:15. However, their work will be displayed in the library until 4:30pm.
Students could use your support to complete their goals. Support may be; friendly reminders, time to work on, someone to process with, or any needs they may need. Students developed their AI goals at the beginning of the year and have been working diligently throughout the year on producing an END project demonstrating their learnings and results. If there are any additional needs you become aware of that our AI students may need - please encourage them to let us know or please reach out to us so that we can support them.
Second, be on the lookout for a Permission Slip coming home soon, for a Field Trip, May 12, 2023. All AI students have an opportunity to partner with our feeder elementary schools to develop leadership skills, give back to the community, and have a little fun.
Please feel free to reach out to Michael Fisher, mfisher@sd27j.net, or Tina Chirstenson, tchristenson@sd27j.net, with any questions or concerns. In advance, thank you for all your support.
