Notes from the Principal's Office
Learning should always be fun! And we certainly try to make that so here at Newbury Elementary School. Over the last week we have strived to implement as many hands on learning experiences as possible for our students. From using math manipulatives to ice experiments to art with nature or even dressing as a book character to give a book talk. Learning should never be dull. If it is we as educators should change something.
We understand that having a early release in the middle of the week can be difficult. I wanted to let everyone know how appreciative the staff was to have the time for training around providing developmental feedback to each other and our students. We learned that being clear is kind, especially when delivering feedback that might seem critical. It was time well spent that will help us work better together and for our students.
On Tuesday morning, as I was heading into school Cindy's bus was heading towards me on Wallace Hill, two headlights in the darkness. While I don't look forward to coming home in the dark, I think it will really help some of our students to not be on the bus in the dark in the morning. Darkness + Warm Bus= going back to sleep!
Don't forget to fall back on Saturday night when you go to bed!
In conjunction with Veteran's Day we will be learning about what it means to be a member of the armed forces and to be a veteran. We will be raising funds for the Wounded Warrior Project.
Please consider donating, by using our online link. If you know a veteran please encourage them to attend our meal on November 15th.
Wishing You Well,

Positivity Project: Other People Mindset-Knowing That My Words & Actions Affect Others
Dear Families,
This week our school community will be focusing on the Other People Mindset of Knowing That My Words and Actions Affect Others. Everything that you say and do can affect others -- and your relationships with them.
Everything we do, say, text, tweet, snap, or post can positively or negatively impact other people. Our words and our actions are our choices to make, but they can have ripple effects long after we make them. Words and actions have the power to lift others up or tear them down, but, our words and actions also impact ourselves. When a group is comprised of individuals who are thoughtful about their words and actions -- individuals who show respect and consideration for the people around them -- we’re likely to have a happier and healthier culture.
To practice and encourage the character strength of perspective with your child, please visit the Positivity Project’s P2 for Families (password: P2), where together you will watch a video, read a quote, and talk about the answers to three questions.
Have a wonderful week!
Why is it important to know that every cause has an effect? Do our words and actions affect others? How?

Sea Turtles Candy Drive for Veterans
The Sea Turtles candy drive for Veterans is officially underway! If you have any leftover Halloween candy at your house, please send it in to donate. The Sea Turtles will be collecting candy from now through November 9th to bring to the VA hospital in White River Junction for patients and visitors to enjoy. We will also be sending cards to the hospital in honor of Veterans Day if you would like to include a card. There will also be a drop box outside of the front entrance of the school. Last year we collected over 60 pounds of candy and this year we are aiming to collect over 60 pounds again! Thanks for your support.
