Bus Evacuation Drill
On Wednesday, October 18th we will have our Bus Evacuation Training for all students and staff. Please see the Bus Evacuation Training Schedule. Teachers will need to bring their classes down to the bus loop at their respective time and remain with them throughout the drill. Teachers please support students on the bus when the driver is providing the training.
Bus Evacuation Training Details:
There will be 3 buses total, so that we can get everyone through the drills.
We will schedule the groups in 20 minute increments. The drill should last about 20 minutes please be ON TIME so that you do not hold up the classes behind you. Be at the Bus Loop at your start time.
Please walk directly to the bus number you are assigned to (see chart above.)
Please talk with your students ahead of time about being respectful and using audience basics.
There will be 2 classes on a bus at a time. Students will need to sit two students to a seat.
3rd Grade and SPECIALS TEACHERS- **Third grade students will attend at the very end of specials. Specials teachers, please take the third graders to the Bus Loop right at the end of class and the 3rd grade teachers will meet you there.
Unity Day
Unity Day was started by PACER's National Bullying Prevention Center as a signature event of National Bullying Prevention Month. The call to action was to "Make it Orange and Make it End. Unite Against Bullying!" Participants are encouraged to wear orange to show their support for bullying prevention.
We show unity for kindness, acceptance, and inclusion and to send a visible message that no child should ever experience bullying. So wear ORANGE on Wednesday, Oct 18th.
D.E.A.R. Day- October 31st
Message from Lareina: Thank you so much for using the Character Coupons this week! I've seen so many students holding them in their hands as they leave for the day:).
To close out each Ethical Principle at the end of the month, we'll be having a school-wide D.E.A.R Morning (Drop Everything and Read). Beginning after announcements in your classroom, students will watch (links provided later) or you can read aloud to them (books available in the library for check-out) pre-selected stories on our monthly Ethical Principle.
Since we started a little late, we will have two book choices this month. One for Honesty and one for Integrity. This scheduled time will be your daily SEL time. After the school-wide story has been shared and discussed in your room, you can have your students do independent reading or buddy reading for the remainder of the SEL time. If you want to include flightlight reading, especially since our first one lands on Halloween, feel free to make the D.E.A.R Morning special and fun!

Fall Feedback Survey
I wanted to check in and see how I can support you and your team. I would love to hear from you regarding your specific needs and then use your feedback to provide support.
I would also love feedback on my performance so that I can continue to grow and reflect as a leader. Thank you for taking time to share your feedback.
I have made each survey question optional, so if there is something you do not want to answer you can skip it. I have also made it anonymous, but you can leave you name if you would like me to reach out to you directly.

Reflection
Reflect on one thing you tried this month:
- How did you provide options to remove barriers for your students?
- Did offering options allow for more students to reach the learning target?
- How did students feel about having choice? What did they learn about themselves?
- What are you willing to try next?
Gardening
A Message From the Garden Girls
Thank you all for helping to compost, plant seeds and transplants for our Winter Garden. We are excited to have it up and running. A big shout out "THANK YOU" to the University of Texas EdEN lab for providing us with all of our compost, transplants and seeds.
Here is our Garden Map Mrs. Riddle made for us. Please utilize this for your grade level's garden bed. Thank you for signing up for your Golden Shovel month.
Please continue to include the Garden Water SignUp in your parent newsletter. We have families helping through the end of November.
When your class visits the garden, don't forget to scan the QR code to let us know you went. This helps the garden committee know that the garden is being used. The class who visits the garden the most each semester, will receive a garden stone with their name on it.
If you see neat things happening in the garden, please let us know if the SteinerStallions chat. Things will begin sprouting soon! Continue to come check things out!
Garden Did You Know?
Did you know...
- What's the difference between mulch and compost?
- Mulch is used on the top layer of the soil to control weeds, retain moisture and regulate soil temperature. Compost is beneath the top layer of soil to benefit the soil in providing nutrients. Think of it as mulch being a blanket and compost being a vitamin.
- Why do we have a Passion Vine growing in our garden?
- These plants are native to North America, growing from Delaware west to Missouri and south to Texas and Florida, and also grow in Central and South America. The genus Passiflora is native to North America and South America. It attracts Gulf Fritillary butterflies. The butterflies will lay their eggs on the plant, and then we can watch the life cycle of the butterfly!
