Tomorrow is the First Day of School!

Message from Dr. Frischkorn

Happy First Day of School, Mayfield Intermediate School!

Thank you all for a great Open House night! We welcomed over 620 families into our school for what we believe will be an outstanding school year. Students, parents, and teachers were excited to meet each other and start building the foundation for a successful school year. Over the next 180 school days, you will see your child grow academically, socially, and emotionally. Tomorrow is the day that it all starts. We will see everyone bright and early.

You will find some good information for the first school day in the newsletter below.

Always Learning,

Dr. Donald Frischkorn

School Hours- 7:15 AM-2:20 PM

Mayfield Intermediate School is the first school to start in the morning and the first school to finish. Our doors open up for students at 7:00 AM, and students need to be in their homeroom class by 7:15 AM. We can feed all students breakfast and have them in their classrooms by 7:10 AM daily. The early hours may take time for students to become accustomed to starting the school year. It will be important that our students get enough sleep. So that may lead to an established bedtime for your child as the summer ends and we begin preparing for the new school year.

Student Dismissal Begins at 2:10 PM. Teachers escort their class from the building in a quick and orderly fashion. Teachers do a great job of ensuring that students get on their correct bus numbers at the beginning of the year and that our dismissal runs smoothly throughout the year.

Parents can still choose to pick up and drop off their children throughout the school year. Parents need to enter through the main entrance and proceed to the front parking loop of the school. At the beginning of the year, we will work with two lanes for arrival to help get students into school before the 7:15 AM Tardy Bell.

Please be advised that the parent drop-off line tends to be very crowded during the first month of school. The most consistent way to ensure that your child arrives at school on time is to have your child ride the school bu. Please use the link below to help you find your child's bus stop during the school year.

Bus Riders

Riding the school bus is the most dependable transportation method for our students. Students who ride the bus arrive at school on time, and the students are released from their buses at 7:00 AM. Our bus riders can get their breakfast and come to their homeroom class by 7:10 AM most days throughout the school year.

Riding the school bus is also a privilege. Manassas City is fortunate to have so many outstanding bus drivers, and it takes everyone working together to make sure that our school buses travel safely and stay clean throughout the school year. Families, please talk with your students about respecting the bus driver and the bus while they travel to school. I know that our bus drivers are excited to meet their students tomorrow morning!

Throughout the day, teachers will review their bus numbers with students and how they are getting home. Before dismissing students, we will know where each student is going so that we can ensure that students are riding the correct bus and get home in a safe and timely manner during the first day of school.

Student Drop Off

We understand that some parents will choose to drive their children to work and drop them off in the morning. Please know that we expect long lines for student drop-offs during school's first couple of weeks. We will have staff out front in the bus loop supporting the drop-off lines. Officer Lawler and the Manassas City Police Department will be assisting with traffic. We will work to ensure that our students exit their cars safely and can enter the building quickly and safely. Students are not allowed to enter the building until 7:00 AM.

We will be utilizing two lanes in the front loop of the school to maximize the number of students we can unload at a time while also making sure that the student can exit safely. As you can probably see, safety is our main priority.

Student dismissal will begin promptly at 2:10 throughout the school. During the first few days of school, we will start our dismissal process around 2:05 to ensure that all students can find their parents quickly.

Lunch and Recess Schedules

Students will have 30 minutes scheduled for their lunchtime. Students will eat lunch with their homerooms and eat at assigned tables. There are eight homerooms eating lunch together at a time. All eight homerooms are from the same campus.

The same eight homerooms from each campus also have a specifically assigned recess time. Recess lasts anywhere from 15-20 minutes per day. Students can play a variety of games.

Student Code of Conduct

Students at Mayfield Intermediate follow the same Student Code of Conduct that ALL students in Manassas City Public Schools follow. Students and parents must read and review the Student Code of Conduct Regularly. We keep the Student Code of Conduct attached as a file at the bottom of every Mayfield Messenger that we send.
