Attention CMS 5th Grade Parents:
Now that NPS will be conducting all of Norwalk's School Choice lotteries, we need to know in advance how many seats to reserve for our 5th graders planning to remain at CMS for middle school. A questionnaire was emailed via PowerSchool to all CMS 5th grade families on Wednesday, February 16. To guarantee a seat for your child next year, it is important that you complete the short questionnaire and submit your response by Monday, February 28, 2022. We would appreciate hearing from all of our 5th grade families whether your child is staying at CMS next year or not. Thank you.
Parents of Incoming CMS Kindergarten Siblings:
If you have a child who will be entering CMS next school year, please email Terry Lakin at lakint@norwalkps.org. In your email, please include your incoming child's name and the name of your current CMS student.
Eligibility:
- Children entering kindergarten must turn 5 on or before December 31, 2022.
- To qualify as a sibling and receive priority status, both applicant and sibling must attend CMS K-8 in the 2022/2023 school year.
- Even though your child is a CMS sibling, you still must submit a lottery application. (You will be able to note on the application that your child is a CMS sib.)
Starting this year, the NPS district will conduct all of Norwalk's elementary school choice lotteries (including CMS). Parents of incoming siblings will need to fill out a district application, noting that your child is a CMS sibling. We will let you know when applications are available (should be late February). In the meantime, we encourage you to start the registration process.
Please Note: When completing your online registration form, it will automatically select your home district school. Do not be alarmed, since CMS is a non-district school, it is not a choice. Once the lottery has been drawn and NPS verifies that your online registration is complete and your documentation has been received by your home district school, they will transfer your registration to CMS.

Health Documentation And Immunization Records For Incoming 2022-23 Grade 7 and 10 Students
The Connecticut State Department of Education, Connecticut Department of Public Health and the Norwalk Board of Education have specific health regulations students must adhere to while enrolled in Norwalk Public Schools. Students are required to provide documentation of a valid physical examination and up-to-date immunizations for entry into 7th and 10th grade.
For Middle School students:
Physical exams should be completed during the 6th-grade year for entry into 7th grade.
For High School students:
Physical exams should be completed during the 9th-grade year for entry into 10th grade.
Without this requirement, your child may not enter their next grade level.
Thank you for your help to ensure that this completed form and updated immunization record is given to the school nurse prior to the first day of school.
NPS Wants To Hear From You - NPS Mask Survey
The State of Connecticut has decided that school districts can make their own choice about whether students should continue to wear their masks in school.
NPS would like to hear how our families feel about this decision. Earlier today, a survey was sent out to the main guardian in your student's PowerSchool account. Please check your email to participate in this survey. This survey can only be completed once, so please read it carefully before submitting. Please reply by February 22.
Thank you for your participation, NPS!

PTA CORNER
Calling All Rock Painters!
Last winter, we had a Rock Scavenger Hunt around our city parks. This year, we would love to have a Spring Scavenger Hunt! We are looking for volunteers to paint rocks. Smooth rocks from the beach or craft kits are the easiest to paint. Once your rocks are painted, please reach out to Tory at vrc221@gmail.com to arrange drop off. We hope to collect all painted rocks by March 1.
The CMS Book Club!
The CMS Book Club is reading The Midnight Library by Matt Haig. We will be meeting in late March to informally discuss the book. Copies of the book in print in English and Spanish are available at the Norwalk Library (you can put in a hold request). It is also available as an e-book or audible book on Overdrive (a free service provided by Norwalk Library - it's an application for a phone or tablet). Please reach out if you have any questions. Happy reading!!
CMS Fun Run
CMS will be holding a FUN RUN this Spring!
Fun Run Kick-Off - Friday, March 25, 2022
CMS Fun Run - Tuesday, April 5, 2022
Our committee is searching for local businesses to help sponsor our Fun Run. The Fun Run is a great way to encourage a healthy life style by having each student learn different exercises, techniques as well as walk/run up to 30 laps! The kids love getting together to participate with their classmates as they raise money for their school. The funds will be used to build our classroom libraries. We also want to continue to build our own classroom resources. Additionally we would like to continue building our digital media lab. If you know anyone who owns a business and may be interested in making a donation, please contact Stephanie Costable at scostabile511@gmail.com or (203) 984-2330. Thank you in advance for your support.
