Eunice Elementary celebrated the birthday of Albert Einstein by dressing as Einstein. On March 14, is the birthday of Albert Einstein along with the recognition of the math symbol pi r squared. The area of a circle is known as pi r squared, or 3.14159, so students were able to decorate their shirts with a pi r square problem or the symbol. Pictured is Yasmine Lemelle, Ms. Chelsee Fontenot, and Gerome White.
On March 13, Mr. Aurdi Bellard, a member of the Rotary Club went to Eunice Elementary to read to the students. They are celebrating La. Agriculture in the classroom. The La. OHS Celebrates Pi Day!
Ms. Richard’s math classes dressed up as Albert Einstein and learned about his impact and the impact that the constant Pi has had on math and science. Pi Day is celebrated on March 14th (3/14) around the world. Pi (Greek letter “π”) is the symbol used in mathematics to represent a constant — the ratio of the circumference of a circle to its diameter — which is approximately 3.14159 and it will continue infinitely without repetition or pattern. In 1988, physicist Larry Shaw organized what is now recognized as the first “Pi Day” celebration at the San Francisco Exploratorium science museum. Pi Day was officially recognized by Congress in 2009, and it’s inspired quirky and pun-filled celebrations, including eating circular treats, from fruit pies to pizza, as well as dressing like Albert Einstein, whose birthday serendipitously falls on the math-imbued day. San Francisco’s Exploratorium also hosts an annual day of pi-inspired activities. The Massachusetts Institute of Technology releases its undergraduate admissions decisions on Pi Day and this year, NASA is inviting math whizzes to compete in its “Pi in the Sky” challenge to solve a series of interplanetary math problems.
