I AM. YOU ARE. WE ARE. BULLDOGS!
News from Mrs. Mankin
Student Learning Buddies These 3rd grade learning buddies meet with this kindergarten student to support and encourage reading. When students have an opportunity to learn from each other, engagement increases. This is an example of a learning community at work! | 1st Grade - Mrs. Lash These writers are discovering poetry through reading, reflecting, and then writing their own. They discussed how illustrations can help convey the author's meaning. | 2nd Grade - Mrs. Shoemaker 2nd grade students are studying the question - What are the qualities of a good leader? Students have read and researched and are now coming up with questions they would ask the leader they selected. |

1st Grade - Mrs. Lash
It's been another learning-filled week at New Britton! I am proud of the collaboration and engagement that I see on a daily basis; we are a true community of learners. We believe that together we are stronger and smarter. This statement is evident on a daily bases as you walk down the hallways and observe the interactions of students, students and teachers/staff, and staff members together.
Our students have been reflecting upon the power of people, connections, and kindness during Black History Month. They have been exposed to rich literature depicting how we can "be the change we wish to see in the world." Please encourage your child to "read the walls" at school as our display of student responses to this literature is growing.
Mr. Couto has shared the exciting news about our Lady Tigers basketball team playing in the state finals this weekend. Please send some positive thoughts their way as this is the first time in school history for them to play in the state finals! Our Circle the State with Song Choir will be participating in a singing workshop this Saturday and then performing at Anderson University. We are Bulldog Proud of the work they, and Mrs. Thornsberry, have put in during their practice sessions second semester!
As always, thank you for partnering with us in education! Have a restful weekend.
Sincerely,
Lori Mankin

3rd Grade - Mrs. Mann Third grade readers are working hard to analyze and respond to text. In this lesson, they looked closely at images to determine how they support the central idea. Reading is an active process. We are learning what questions to ask as we read. | 3rd Grade - Mrs. Street These readers are also "digging deep" to make inferences about what they have read. How can we ask questions about characters, the author's purpose, writing structure, and events to better understand the story? | 4th Grade - Mrs. Clark Have you heard of the Mariana Trench? Students read a story about this oceanic trench located in the western Pacific Ocean. They learned about nonfiction text structures and features as they read this text. Did you know that the Mariana Trench is deeper than Mt. Everest is tall? WOW - it is amazing what we can learn when we read! |

Family Resources
Snack Attack - Fishers Youth Assistance Program
NBE is pleased to announce the return of the Snack Attack program for those students in need. This program, supported by the Fishers Youth Assistance Program, is designed to provide students a little extra nourishment for the weekend until they can receive a hot meal at school on Monday.
Here's how the program works. Your student will pick up a small sack of food to be taken home over the weekend. The sack is filled with individually wrapped snacks such as granola bars, fruit cups, pop tarts, peanut butter/crackers, Goldfish crackers, etc. The type of snacks will vary each week. Please let us know if your child has a peanut allergy as he/she will receive a special bag of peanut-free snacks.
There is no cost to you or the school. This program is open to students that qualify for the reduced lunch program or have an increased need currently.
To be part of this free program, you must sign up your family online. https://forms.gle/xrKNaxRaLypSqKvV8
