President's Post

February 2018

I believe with all of my heart that our God is a Missionary God. As Seventh-day Adventist we are to carry out His Mission every day of our lives. What a privilege to live with purpose.

I participated in public evangelism for three weekends this past month. Every time I hold an evangelistic series, I feel close and gain so much in my walk with Jesus. I was part of the team that preached in Milton FL. I Shared the Preaching with their local Pastor Dan Thompson. I gained so much from listening to him each evening.

Let me share with you how we did the series: I think you’ll find this interesting. The meetings started at 6:00 PM each evening. In the evening two messages are presented approximately 40-45 minutes each. A 15 minute break between the meetings gave us an opportunity to share snacks and presented a time to connect with those who are visiting the church for the meetings. Here is a list of the topics:

Jan 19 Fri Night: Can God Be Trusted — Pastor Dan

Seeing the Signs — Dave

Jan 20 Sabbath Morning: Why So Much Pain and Suffering — Pastor Dan

Jan 20 Saturday Night: Second Coming — Dave

The Messiah & Judgement — Pastor Dan

Jan 26 Friday Night: Quality Time — Pastor Dan

The Day That Disappeared — Dave

Jan 27 Sabbath Morning: Peace on Earth — Pastor Dan

Jan 27 Saturday Night: What Happens When You Died? — Dave

Revelation’s Lake of Fire — Pastor Dan

Feb 2 Friday Night: Mystery Beast of Revelation — Pastor Dan

The United States in Bible Prophecy — Dave

Feb 3 Sabbath Morning: Buried & Forgotten — Pastor Dan

Feb 3 Saturday Night: Mark of the Beast — Pastor Dan

Personal Testimony — Dave

In three weekends we covered 15 topics. Pastor Dan continued this series for one additional weekend doing one sermon on Friday, Sabbath morning, and one final sermon Saturday night. During the week, visits were made and more specific subjects are taught in the home.

Milton is a small church. On opening night we had 18 people in the congregation. We grew a little bit but it never reached 30 people. Most meetings there were four guests who came. One female military person who was baptized in Afghanistan a little while ago brought her Mom and brother to the meetings. After several very good visits and answering her questions, I’m so happy to tell you that the Mom during a visit with Pastor Dan asked him; “How do I join this church?” I can’t express the joy in our hearts when people who need Jesus and His Church come to this point in their lives. Also the veteran’s brother and I had a great visit, I told him if he would choose to follow Jesus and be baptized to let me know through Pastor Dan and I will try to come down and be a part of the congregation that morning. As I was leaving Saturday night this fine young man came up to me and said “I’ll be letting you know, I would really like you to be there.” I left with a smile on my face. I know it is extra work and a real time commitment for me and not all President’s do it, or feel the need to do evangelism, but my friends I need to do this, it’s in my blood and God is always present in an amazing way. I just love sharing Jesus!!

LOOSE ENDS

I had two particularly difficult visits during this last month. I solicit your prayers for wisdom.

Our tithe ended the year in the red. We are praying that our Stewardship Sabbath School this quarter can help all of us understand stewardship. I know stewardship is about more than money, but it does include money. I will always be thankful for your faithfulness, you enable our churches to have pastors and to reach out with Light to a dark world. Never think for a moment that I’m not grateful for all you do. It’s just that there is so much to do and when finances are limited I get frustrated.

We have visited all of our Pastors and talked with them about our new expectations, accountability and direction. Our meetings have gone very well. We are blessed to have a teachable and passionate group of pastors. Most had worked hard on tangible goals and plans before any of us arrived. They shared how and when those plans will be achieved. We’ll follow up those plans next quarter with visits again in their homes.

We are having beginning discussions about changing our mission statement:

“TOUCHING LIVES FOR JESUS.”

We don’t dislike this statement at all but, we would like to have something a little stronger. I know that touching someone’s life is the beginning of bringing that person towards Jesus. I use to call this; “Evangelism by the Nudge.” I’m thinking about something more aggressive like:

“BUILDERS OF THE KINGDOM”.

I like this because this is what we are all about. Building block (person) by block (person) His kingdom forms on earth as it is in heaven. This is just in the thinking stage, if you have an idea for us please share.

I wrote this PP down in Florida at our annual President’s Council. It’s good to rub shoulders with other presidents. Over the last few years I’ve developed several close relationships. The NAD holds these meetings and they are always beneficial and helps me grow. I feel supported and I learn a lot down here. God is good.

God bless you, until next month,

Dave
