Applying Math to the Real World
Geometry students worked collaboratively to design and carry out a data-driven research project to explore a social issue that they care about. They chose two variables/factors to study, located evidence-backed data from credible sources, created a two-way frequency table and Venn diagram, calculated relevant probabilities, and carried out an analysis to answer their research questions. Lastly, they engaged in a Gallery Walk around the classroom where they got to present their research to peers and learn about other teams’ projects.
MeterHero and AP Environmental Science
Don't be alarmed if you see students from Mrs. Bryant's AP Environmental Science classes snooping around their utility meters in the weeks ahead. The students are part of a new community partnership with the Walnut Valley Water District to allow them to build real-world data analysis skills while helping their families save water and money.
The utility is sponsoring "MeterHero", a curriculum enhancement offered to teachers with AP Environmental Science classes at Diamond Bar High School, Walnut High School, Rowland High School, and Diamond Ranch High School.
'Walnut Valley Water District is excited to offer MeterHero to more than 400 local high school students,' said Lily Lopez, Director of External Affairs & Sustainability. 'Water is one of our most precious resources, and it’s essential that we provide our future leaders with the education and experience to protect the environment and develop solutions to manage the drought. We hope that this resource inspires students to choose STEAM careers in the water industry as well.'
This program is designed for students to collect and analyze water meter data from their homes’ and then develop and implement a water conservation strategy that benefits their household and the entire WVWD community. Students will be directly leading the effort to help WVWD meet its goal of up to a 20% decrease in district-wide water usage.
French Revolution Project
French III has just finished their semester project; it was about the most important event in the history of France, the French Revolution. They created a flow map starting with the causes of the revolution, the period of terror, how it ended, and its impact. They also created an art project that is related to the Revolution.
Daniel Lu and Kolton Ly created a Guillotine, Genesis Renderos created the painting, and Landon Bonilla-Rivera volunteered to act as the victim at the Guillotine.
Band Concert
The Rowland HS and Alvarado IS Instrumental Music Departments will be hosting our Spring concert on Tuesday, May 23rd.
