Library News
Happy Teacher Appreciation Week, and May the Fourth be with you! In library this week we are reading various fictional stories together and drawing comparisons between them in Kindergarten through 3rd grade, and in 4th and 5th grade we are continuing on in our novel study of Esperanza Rising. We are also learning about Cinco de Mayo, which is when Mexico won it's independence as a country on May 5th, 1862! Fun fact: The Mexican were outnumbered in the Battle of Puebla, the battle against France for their independence, so a clever colonel thought to release a nearby pen filled with cows. The cows scattered everywhere and created the perfect diversion that enabled them to win the battle! (Torpie, 2008)

Raising a child is probably the most gratifying job any of us will ever have and one of the toughest. In large part, that's because times have changed. We live in an increasingly complex world that challenges us every day with a wide range of disturbing issues that are difficult for children to understand and for adults to explain. Our kids are part of the iGen or GenZ generation. The generation born with smartphones and tablets. Let’s talk about how we can talk to our kids and survive.
