Principal Update

Good Afternoon Madeira Middle School Families,

We hope everyone is doing well after the past week's weather... A couple of reminders as we finish off the month of February: Students who are being dropped off in the morning, please remember, school starts at 8:00am. With the high number of cars dropping students off in the morning, we are not counting students tardy until after 8:05, however we continue to have a high number of students being dropped off after 8:05. If you are running late and your student is arriving after 8:05, they will need to enter the main office to sign in. Also, as you wait in the afternoon for student pick-up, please make sure we are not blocking Naomi onto Marvin or the driveways on Naomi. Some of our residents have had some concerns leaving their homes during this time. As the weather begins to thaw, we will be getting students outside for a break as much as possible. Please make sure your student is dressed appropriately.

Our Spring Pictures have been re-scheduled for this Thursday! These are optional and do not replace the pictures taken in the fall for our yearbook. If you would like to order pictures, please visit and enter the picture ID EVTB7N6DV.

Unfortunately, our 8th grade trip to Washington DC will not be taking place again this year. I am sure many of you have already assumed this. We waited until the last possible date in January to cancel the hold on tentative dates. Our 8th grade team is working on activities for our 8th graders to celebrate their last four years here at MMS.

Please read through the upcoming dates below! We have our annual "Parent Scheduling", presentations right around the corner. Each grade level meeting will be held via zoom. Due to the large number of families we expect to participate, we ask that only one device per household join the meeting. We will be taking questions through the chat during the meeting. If you have specific questions for your student, please reach out via email to Mrs. Cabral, Mrs. Huelsman, or Mrs. Bloomstrom. The zoom links are also below.

We hope you have a great week!

Nicole Huelsman

Principal, MMS

Calendar Changes

CALENDAR CHANGES: As we look to the second semester, I wanted to draw your attention to a few adjustments in our 2020-2021 School Calendar that were recently approved by the Madeira Board of Education. We will be replacing the two planned early release dates in January and March with two full professional development days throughout the semester in order for our teachers and staff to have time to plan as well as time for their own mental well-being. Our PD days where we will not have school for students are February 12 (already scheduled) and the two new dates of March 5, and April 30. Again, these will be non-student days so that our teachers have time to plan and recharge.

• In case of inclement weather delays or closings, please see Weather Alert Information.
