Wisdom from the Queen Bee Mrs. Starlin
The past two weeks the students have been learning about story settings in the library. The setting is the when and the where of the story. Students are struggling a bit to understand "when." We have talked a lot about using illustrations to fill in information that the author left out. For example, the text may not say when, but the illustration shows a sunny day with blooming flowers. Therefore, we can assume the story is taking place on a sunny spring afternoon. The concept of time is difficult at this age. Help your child find the setting (when and where) during your nightly readings.
Weather permitting we do go outside during the winter. Sometimes for a walk around the track and other times we are able to have recess outside. Please help your child dress accordingly. Names on tags or the inside of coats, hats, and mittens are helpful. If your child needs to borrow a hat, coat or mittens, please let your classroom teacher know. You will find information on communication for school closings and delays below.
Hose spirit wear now available through Nov. 25th - makes great Christmas gifts!
Counselor's Corner with Mrs. Tucker
This is just one great way to help our community. Help your child think of and do other projects to brighten our community. They could make cards and deliver them to a nursing home or mail them to our troops. They could help a grandparent decorate their Christmas tree. They could help donate old toys or clothes they've outgrown to someone in need. The possibilities are endless. The important thing is we cultivate their generous hearts.
Building foundations with Mrs. Reef
When reading with your child, encourage them to use the pictures to think about what is happening in the story. Pictures provide support about the meaning of the story and are very helpful to beginning readers.
Together, we can help our little ones build a strong foundation!
