For the parents and patrons of the Fulton School District

A message from the Superintendent

Dear Parents and Patrons,

Perhaps you realize Thursday afternoon, with the outside lock down at Bush Elementary and Fulton Middle School, was stressful. However, we were pleased with each building’s response that ensured your student(s) were safe. Two busloads of Bush students, returning from a field trip during the lockdown, were directed to a safe school until an ‘all clear’ call was given to return to Bush Elementary. Parents were notified by e-mail and text messaging. FPS Staff were notified by e-mail; however, the staff text messaging failed and has been corrected.

Of note, at Bush Elementary the phone system was overwhelmed with calls during this time. We will take every opportunity to keep you informed with reliable information during emergency periods. IF this incident was a total building lock down, all staff and students would be secured and phones would not be answered.

Perhaps you might have noticed that the voice messaging was not used. A conscious decision has been made not to use voice messaging during the day. The trend seems to indicate individuals choose to return a call rather than listen to their voicemail resulting in overwhelmed phone lines and system delays.

Thank you for sending great kids to work with!

Sincerely,

Jacque A. Cowherd, Ed.D.

Superintendent
