Trombly Terriers Taking Care of Business

One School One Book Kicks Off!
We are excited about reading this novel together as a community, and we also want to share some of the themes discussed in the book. Some of the big ideas discussed in the book include poverty, homelessness, hunger, honesty, and friendship. Books help us teach compassion, they can be a powerful tool to help our students understand another person’s point of view and begin to have conversations about difficult topics.
ATTENTION PARENTS:
Please read Chapter 2 before reading it to your child. This short section may be one that you skip or modify for your younger children due to the discussion of the Easter Bunny. Skipping these pages will not affect the overall story.
Letter from the author:

In our recordings of Chapter 2 and 3, we will be skipping the references to the Easter Bunny due to the fact it refers to a human hand underneath the costume. We will stop at the bottom of page 9, skip page 10 completely and the first line in chapter 3. It has no impact on the overall story.
5th and 6th Grade Course Selection Sheets are Due March 4
4th and 5th Grade News

5th Grade promotion ceremony will be held on Friday, June 12 at 8:45 AM.
Disability Awareness Day - March 6
All 3rd and 4th grade students from Defer & Trombly will participate in Disability Awareness Day, which is designed to build empathy and knowledge for students through hands-on experiences simulating various impairments and disabilities. This year the program is being extended to also include 3rd graders along with 4th graders. Nearly 200 students will be participating this year as it has been expanded to also include 3rd graders. We need volunteers (from all grades) to make the day a success! Please sign up here: https://www.signupgenius.com/go/10c0f48a5ac2fabf94-2019
Election Day - March 10
Trombly will be used as an election precinct on Tuesday, March 10 for the Presidential Primary. We will not have access to our gym so students will be eating in their classrooms. School Lunch will be available that day. Lunch will be served out of the first floor kitchen.
We could use some extra help that day. If you could volunteer for 30 minutes to watch your child’s class, that would be helpful. If you are able and willing to volunteer, please email Dineen Krotche.
Report Cards
The 2nd marking period report cards will be sent home on Friday, March 13.

Staying Healthy
There are steps you can take to prevent spread of flu and the common cold that will also help prevent coronavirus disease, including:
• Wash your hands with soap and water
• Avoid touching your eyes, nose or mouth with unwashed hands
• Cover your mouth and nose with a tissue or upper sleeve when coughing or sneezing.
• Avoid contact with people who are sick.
• Stay home if you are sick and contact your healthcare provider.
• If a student has a fever, keep them home until they are fever free for 24 hours.
LEADER DOG - Pennies for Puppies
With an imaginary animal (a cat) being one of the main characters in Crenshaw and our 3rd and 4th graders participating is the Disability Awareness Workshop on Friday, we have decided to support the Leader Dog organization as one of our community service projects. We are asking students to bring in coins and deposit them into the container located in the office. We told the students they need parent permission to bring in loose coins. We appreciate your support with our community service project. Our school goal is $500 which helps offset the cost of raising one of these amazing puppies. Money will be collected through March 20.
