Knox News!
October 2018
Welcome to October!
Hello Knox Families!
We had a busy first month of school! Knox has increased in enrollment, so we have added an extra section of Math 8 to support our students. We also hosted our first Knox Parent Circle as well as our first Knox Parent Workshop on Internet Safety (see pictures below). Our ASB students attended the CADA leadership conference in Del Mar, and our Engineering students spent the day at Raytheon. Our 2 Knox robotics reams "Robotic Rascals" and "Bulldog Builders" are meeting after school to prepare for the October First Lego League Competition.
This month, all teachers will continue to support our school-wide focus of Reading and Writing in the classroom. Here are some ways parents can support their students at home with homework, reading and writing.
WELCOME!!!!!!!!!
I would like to introduce our new Vice Principal Ms. Angelica Hueso-Garcia. Ms. Hueso-Garcia is joining us from the SDUSD's English Support Office, as a Common Core Resource Teacher. Ms. Hueso-Garcia will join the team on October 15th.
We encourage all students to read for 20 minutes a night independently. Students can check out books during Advisory or lunch time. Did you know that we have many new books in our school library? Your 7th grade student will be bringing home a copy of A Long Walk to Water, and your 6th grade student will be bringing home their own copy of A Lightening Thief.
All Knox students will have nightly math homework. Homework is assigned from a math packet that is given to the students at the start of each chapter. Math tutoring is EVERY Tuesday in room S4 from 3:10-4:10.
Please check your child's planner nighty. They should be recording their homework assignments there.
Reports Cards are Coming!! Progress report #1 ends on October 12th. Please log into Power School Parent Portal to monitor your child's grades.
Please remind your student to stay on the sidewalk when walking home from school. This is very important for student safety. Also, all students that ride bikes, skateboards, and scooters must have a helmet.
Thank you for all of your support!
Sincerely,
Principal Potter
