March 29, 2021: The Spring Break Edition
Message from Mr. Hanzeli
Hello Elger Bay Families!
The week leading up to Spring Break is traditionally antsy for both the students and the adults of our community. Camano Islanders get really excited when we start to see the sun for more than 10 minutes at a time :-) Please accept my hopes that you and your family will have a wonderful spring break. ~ Mr. Hanzeli
Parent Conferences
Reminder that Thursday and Friday are HALF DAYS for students and conference days the remainder of the time. By now, if you and teacher feel you need to meet, you and they should have communicated and landed on a good time for all. If not, please contact your child's homeroom teacher.
Wednesday SCSD District Equity Training; No Resource Student Session on 3.31.21
On Wednesday, 3.31, staff will be participating in an all district equity training. As a result, Resource Students who normally attend on Wednesday will not have a session on 3.31.21. In addition, classroom teachers will not be providing their usual office hour so they may get started on their parent conferences.

Spring Break
SCSD Friday Family Message, 3.26.21 (Repeat)
Good Afternoon SCSD Families,
We have one more week before spring break. If you haven’t reached out to set up conferences with your child(ren)’s teacher(s), you may still do so by calling his/her school.
If your family is traveling over spring break, please review the CDC recommendations and requirements for travel. Travel increases the risk of spreading and contracting the virus, so the CDC still recommends delaying travel if possible. If you do travel, they ask people to take the following actions to protect yourself and others:
If you are eligible, get fully vaccinated for COVID-19.
Before you travel, get tested with a viral test 1-3 days before your trip.
Wear a mask over your nose and mouth when in public.
Avoid crowds and stay at least 6 feet/2 meters (about 2 arm lengths) from anyone who did not travel with you.
Get tested 3-5 days after your trip and stay home and self-quarantine for a full 7 days after travel, even if your test is negative. If you don’t get tested, stay home and self-quarantine for 10 days after travel.
Follow all state and local recommendations or requirements after travel.
The most up to date information regarding travel can be found on the CDC’s website.
Secondary Schedule Update
The district is continuing to work with our instructional staff to develop a more robust schedule for our middle and high school students. The complexities are passing times, lunch times when students need to be unmasked, and the number of transitions and mixing of cohorts. We anticipate having a schedule to share with families soon along with a survey to find out which students plan to return to face-to-face learning and which students wish to remain in distance learning. Distance learning will continue to be an option for all students in the district.
Important dates
March 31--No google meets or in-person learning. Staff will be participating in professional development.
April 1-2--Half-days for all students. Family/Teacher conferences in the afternoon. Each school will share specific schedules with families.
April 5-9--Spring Break
Governor Inslee Press Conference
We are aware of Gov. Inslee’s March 25 press conference that allows Washington state schools to begin using a three-feet social distancing model in classrooms in alignment with recent CDC guidance.
Our current district plan is built on a six-foot social distancing model. The safety of our students and employees remains our utmost priority, and we will review this new guidance to determine how and when it can be safely implemented in our schools.
More information will be shared as decisions are made. Thank you for your continued patience and partnership.
