A friendly reminder to keep the districts exclusion policies in mind throughout the cold and flu season. These can be found on our website www.usd231.com. Thank you for helping to keep our student body as healthy as possible! Also, please remind your students not to share or borrow brushes, coats, hats, hair ties, head bands etc. as head lice is spread through close contact. Thank you for your continued support!

Counseling Corner
In January we are talking about the new year and that fancy word, resolution. We are making some new years resolutions and then thinking beyond just a one year goal, into a grown up goal of what we want to be when we grow up. Parents, keep your eyes open for an invitation for our Career Wax Museum for you to come in and share about your job to our GSE students. This will take place on Friday, March 6.
Library Lowdown
We’re halfway through the school year and we’re halfway through reading our Novel Navigator books in 3rd and 4th grade. We’ve just begun to learn to use the 5-Finger Rule to choose “Just Right” books in 1st grade - see if your child can explain it to you!
These cold winter days are a great time to stay indoors and read. No matter whether your child is in preschool or in fourth grade, have a regular time and place to read together. Make it something your child can look forward to and you'll see positive results in no time. Every day is great but as few as fifteen to twenty minutes of reading together, three or four times a week, can make a huge difference. There’s also something about turning the pages of a physical book that helps the brain grow, remembering and understanding better what’s been read. Plus, it’s hard to cuddle with a tablet!
If the weather cooperates, please come to our Family Math and Reading Night on January 28 from 6 to 7:30 You’ll get to do lots of neat reading activities throughout the school and Johnson County Public Library will also be here!
Happy Reading!
