Student Grant
Wow! I am BEYOND impressed with how amazing each child presented their part on Friday asking our PTO for a grant to purchase House shirts!! Fingers crossed it is granted. I will keep you posted!
Famous Hoosiers
In fourth grade, each kiddo selects a famous Hoosier to study! While we will not be researching in depth until the second semester, we would love for everyone to know who they will be dressing up as and researching. Especially with the field trip approaching, they may want to have an eye out for their person! The selection sheet will be coming home tomorrow and is due Friday or before. Please be sure to sign off agreeing to the individuals your child selects. You may want to do a little research with your child on their top three choices to ensure there is enough information before signing off. While we will do most of the researching and writing here at school, gathering the resources and materials will be done at home, then brought into school.
Field Trip
We will be going on our second field trip on Monday, November 21 to the State Museum. A blue permission slip came home. The trip is FREE. :)
BODY SAFETY PROGRAMS- KINDERGARTEN, SECOND AND FOURTH GRADES
Zionsville Community Schools are partnering again this year with Chaucie’s Place, a child advocacy organization in Hamilton County, to bring Smart Steps: A Body Safety Program for Children™ to our Kindergarten, 2, and 4th grade students. Smart Steps is a child sexual abuse prevention and education program that empowers your child to say “NO!” to any unwanted touches that make them uncomfortable from anyone.
We invite you to attend a Chaucie’s Place Parent Night to learn more about the Smart Steps program. We will be hosting one on Thursday, November 10th from 6:30pm-7:30pm at the Education Service Center. This meeting is open to all parents and/or guardians of Kindergarten thru 4th grade students. Please be advised that Parent Night is not open to children. To learn more about Chaucie’s Place visit: www.chauciesplace.org.
Veterans Day Convocation
We will be celebrating our veterans on Friday during a special convocation. Please be sure to wear red, white and/or blue in honor of this special day! In addition, we will be collecting donations for Honor Flight.
Prepositions
Your child has been challenged to memorize 49 prepositions! We are working on the jingle at school and hand motions to engage our brains! The only deadline is Thanksgiving Break for your child to have memorized all six sections. I will have the assessments out for each section in the mornings, so your child may pick one (or two) up when they come in, working at their own pace. No need to memorize it all tonight! You may want to listen when they are ready to ensure they know them! Here is the link so you know how the jingle goes. There are a few before the preposition flow jingle.

Box Tops for Education
Box Tops for Education is a national program in which schools can earn cash by sending in Box Tops. Union Elementary has a 2016-2017 goal to earn $3500. Each box top that you collect is worth 10 cents towards Union. More information was sent home last week.
Please refer to this link for further information or Box Tops submission forms:

The class with the most Box Tops at the end of the year will earn a Pizza party! Let the competition begin!
Union Elementary Online Directory
Not familiar with the Online Directory? The directory allows parents to communicate with one another whether it’s to set up play-dates, send out birthday invitations, or just get to know one another. In order to obtain access, an email address is required. If you haven’t provided an address and want access to the directory, contact Carey atRoberts_carey@yahoo.com.
To log-into the directory,

REMIND 101
Another way for me to keep in touch is the use of remind 101. Many times I will just send a text reminder instead of an email. To sign up for 2016-17 Parents notifications, please visit
If you already have the Remind101 app, you can search for my class or use @cdc79.
