Hello Centerview Families,
Gosh, I love the zip and zing Centerview students bring every day. Their youthful enthusiasm is contagious. Watching them hop out of the car in the morning, skip down the hall, or just smile with eagerness through their day is enjoyable.
That was never more true than the last two days…picture days! Beyond the smiles were the outfits, the hairdos, and the lively energy it brought to each day. Thank you, families, for the time in the morning to send your kids off feeling like a million bucks. A quick snapshot is worth decades of memories!
Continuing with appreciation, our $5 from 5 people Parent Teacher Organization FUNdraiser is concluding. We’ve had many envelopes with various amounts turned in…THANK YOU! The generosity of our Centerview School community is to be commended. We’ll celebrate with our FUNdraiser FUN Run tomorrow. The run is the culmination of our efforts to provide and extend opportunities for our students to grow in their learning. Below you’ll see when your student will be participating during the day.

Next week, I hope you can join us on Thursday, October 13, 5-7 p.m. for our first Passport to Learning experience at Centerview Elementary. As a family, you’ll be able to travel through Centerview as your student guides you through their curricular resources and daily learning experience. We look forward to sharing with you what your children are learning and answer any questions you may have. ALL K-4 staff will be available to facilitate and be of support in each family’s experience. We look forward to each of you joining us.
Fall Communication and Conferencing is coming your way. Staff members will be reaching out to identify a time with each of you to connect and conference, resulting in an opportunity to have personalized conversations around understanding your child’s current progress and learning plan. It will also be a time for you to share insights about your child that inform your child’s Learner Profile and Map and help us continue to personalize learning for them.
Finally, all students in grades K-4 will be taking an assessment called Measures of Academic Progress (MAP) in the coming weeks to get a more up-to-date picture of where they are at in reading and math. We’ll use this information, with your student, to respond to and guide our instruction as we move through the school year.
Whew, that was a lot. If you have questions, please do not hesitate to connect with your student’s homeroom teacher or me. We’d be happy to talk with you!
Take care,
Mike

Building the future - in our parking lot
A house is rising in the parking lot of Spring Lake Park High School. More than 40 students in the new Construction Trades course are spending a few hours a day on the real-world, hands-on learning experience. Next spring, a completed one-level, two-bedroom home will be moved into our community.
High school teacher Scott Wicklund is leading the year-long project. He will be helped by many experts in the field through on-site work, tours and learning at local businesses. The goal is to expose students to the different trade options and have some fun while also helping them find a potential career path after graduation.
The Construction Trades course is part of the Technology, Engineering and Design Pathway. It will also include elements from our other two pathways at Spring Lake Park High School. Read more online.
